GDT 8/17/21: Braves @ Fish - Ynoa Returns

Not that it would change anything come playoff time. But the Braves could very well end the season with the 4th best record in the league.

Not really. The 1993 Braves were 10 games back on July 22nd and 9.5 back as late as August 1st. They needed 104 wins to win the division. That’s way more impressive than this.

But that '93 club had Maddux, Glav, Smoltz, and Avery so that makes this more impressive in my book.

I watched almost every game of the 93 campaign. I have to say it was magical. I loved all the early 90's, but 93 often is forgotten per the early postseason exit. Catching the Giants that year was magic. I was at Candlestick twice that year, and the day that Maddux, Justice, McGriff and co shut them down in late August was amazing.

I was at the game we swept at Candlestick, and at some point in the game it became a laugher. I accidently dropped my foam tomahawk into the tunnel entrance. One of the Giants fans who I'd been sitting near brought it back to me since I hadn't been standing, chopping, and chanting. It took us 2 hours to get out of the parking lot, causing my mom to be late for her pre-op appointment for a major surgery the next day. She cried bitterly as we headed down the freeway that afternoon. It was a lot to take in given what happened that day on the field.

Soon we are adding Anderson to this rotation?

My God we may win 92 games this year. And after that start?

Phillies can't even beat the team with the worst record. Love it.

Be careful what you say... we struggle often mightily when we go to the west coast regardless of the other team's record... the Diamondbacks can easily still make us look foolish

Diamondbacks have already made us look foolish with their doubleheader shutout sweep (one of which was Bumgarner's 7-inning no-hitter) in April. We are playing better now, but they play the games for a reason.

that’s definitely fair but the Braves really only need to tread water the rest of the season against West Coast teams and roll the under .500 squads and be fine. The Phillies have to perform essentially every single night now

Funny how things change. When we faced the D-Backs in April, we entered the series with an 8-10 record and the Snakes were 9-10. We won the first game of that series 5-4 and, of course, they swept the DH after game 2 was rained out.

Point is, I guess, is that other than the 7 inning no-no, nothing seemed terribly out of the ordinary about the series result. Of course, we are now 64-56 and they are 39-81 and that three game series does seem out of place now, doesn't it?

Braves won’t even win 90. To even get to 90 wins, they would have to go on a 103-win pace the rest of the way. That’s not happening. 88 tops.

This team probably has at least 1 more bad stretch in them. When that stretch happens, let’s all agree not to freak out and call the team trash while demanding everyone be fired.

Mmkay?

You sound like the dad going on the road trip giving everyone lectures about bathroom breaks and such, and then reminds everyone when they have to go to the bathroom anyway that they should have gone at the last stop.

You're understating that a bit.

We went 14 innings and got one hit. One GD hit.

I know I can't say GD on the radio, but no one's listening anyway.

Lmao! Same dad's?

Enscheff has a point though. But so what, it's our party and we will damn well B**** about it when we want to. My derogatory posts are waiting!
