GDT #8 4/9/'14 Braves(Santana) vs Mets(Wheeler) No BJ Simmons batting 2nd.

Santana just said he asked the pitch the 9th but Fredi wouldn't let him. He said he couldn't talk Fredi out of it but that given the way the game was going he wanted a shot at finishing it. But then added that's okay maybe next time.

Fredi's bullpen management has always been questionable at best. That was the big knock on him when he was with the Marlins.

Still, the guy gets way too much hate from armchair managers who have no idea of the inner workings of a Major League clubhouse.

Again, it's legitimate to point out that bullpen management. Otherwise, why do we even have boards like this? Why do we armchair players question any of the hitters or pitchers?

Exactly, I also find it funny the big Fredi defenders will bash players big time but anyone dares question Fredi they run to his defense.

Sure there is a lot going on that we don't know about. But how would that justify warming up Carpenter in the 8th but bringing in Walden in the 9th. The only thing I can think of that would justify that would be Carpenter getting hurt while warming up.

I just hope it isn't like BJ and Uggla...think you are getting one thing and end up with something entirely different -

Ummmmmmmmmm if I thought I was getting Emma Watson and wound up with Sofia Vergara I wouldn't cry too much. Down grade on face and probably tightness, upgrade on tits.

I disagree, but I was talking more about the process itself. :icwudt:

Right. I didn't see the game, but none of the moves Fredi made seem so terrible to me. But, yeah, like you said having a bunch of different pitchers warm up at that point seems silly to me.

Good thing no one said you couldn't do that.

But people on here can't without being told to stop bashing Fredi, or that they have no idea how a clubhouse works. I understand it gets excessive from time to time. I try to avoid name-calling. (Referring to him as a boner earlier in the thread was a light-hearted poke.) I'll also concede bullpen management is difficult and is a weakness for several managers. Ultimately, it does come down to Walden to perform in that situation. But the bottom line is Santana was good to go, and he probably could have finished at under 100 pitches. At least he should have had the opportunity to.

Fredi AND ROGER decided he would only go 8 before the 8th even happened

Roger is never blamed here

Well, the same could be said about BJ then....you understand him being in the 2 hole bc of his speed, but it's on him to perform although he's struggling severely and shouldn't be up there.

But completely agree with you none the less...great point.

Marmol just gave up a grand slam to Werth, turning a 7-6 8th inning Miami lead into 10-7 Nats. Miami once led this game 5-0 too.

Well, you don't. But the main point is calling Fredi an idiot and acting like he's the worst manager of all-time is hyperbolic beyond belief.
