GDT 8/6/24: Braves vs Brewers - Get it together for Elder

Just learn to use pen games for the love or God

Dodd is probably pen depth at this point. Not sure if he would take the next Lopez start or not. For some reason the Braves have Sale going tonight on TWO days of extra rest. So instead of just starting him last night on a full days extra rest they used Elder last night against the Brewers who he just faced. Good god I question who is really steering this ship.

I disagree. I think leaders (regardless if they are in charge or not) make a huge difference in everything you do.

These guys suddenly suck at the most basic thing they have been doing their entire careers: hitting a baseball. I don‘t see how you can blame that on a lack of leadership.

When an 8th grader is suddenly unable to perform simple multiplication, you don‘t question the ability of the math teacher. You look at what’s going on inside the student‘s head.

Where were Wash/EY in 2021 when we were much worse than we are now at this time?

Oh, that’s right. They were still on the team. I guess they’re leadership skills didn’t develop until last year.

Where in the hell did I say EY and/or Wash was the only leaders or even the leaders. I think there is a combination of things happening (injuries/ bad play) But like in 21, this team now seems dead in the water without some star players.

But in 21 AA got Joc and others who are big personalities and the team responded in kind. This team looks brain dead and lifeless very much like twit. There is still enough talent on this team to win, but no one in that clubhouse seems to really believe they do. They basically have quit this season.

say what.. if my 8th grader started sucking in math all of a sudden, I sure would look to the teacher to see what is going on. It might not be her/his fault, but it would be the first place I looked. But that is a bad analogy anyways..

have you ever played a sport. I can think of when I played baseball or golf or basketball.. when you doubt you can win and just go through the motions, you play like crap. right now, this team just seems defeated and bored and just wants this season to end. I don't see any fire. no battles at the plate.. maybe Acuna's energy is missed, I don't know. Maybe they all have some personal crap going on in their lives we don't know about.. maybe they don't like how the pitchers are being babied.. maybe they just suck and the window is closed.. but these guys are lifeless..

The biggest problem is very clearly the injuries. That can't be overlooked as the clear #1 reason this team is struggling.

I do agree with assessment of Snit's leadership skills because I've worked with leaders like him. Some leaders have ideas, can set a direction, and get others to follow that direction. Some leaders simply wait for a consensus and everyone likes them.

Snit is the 2nd type of leader, and as long as he has the most talented roster he wins because of that talent. Now that the Braves have marginal talent they need a leader to lead and make sound decisions. Snit is not capable of doing that.

I don’t think you can say a team that has seen their team decimated with injuries to the extent the Braves have this season have quit when they still have the record they do.

The reason the Braves are mid is because they have sub MLB players at 4 positions right now.”, and had 5 for a while. No amount of leadership is going to make up for that.

Snit is the managerial equivalent of system QB with an all pro offense surrounding him. Then people act surprised when his top WR and RB get injured, 3 of his OLs go down, and the offense sucks.

Having said that, the team should be embarrassed by the showings the past two games. I don’t care who is in your outfield.

I complete agree and can easily recognize the fact that injuries and subsequent attempts to fill those injured holes with below replacement level players is by far the biggest issue. And the pitching (Sale and Lopez along with the emergence of Swhelly) has been incredible. But there just seems to be this whatever feel around this team along with tons of sloppy plays that haven't happened before.. No team should allow a steal of home 3 times in a year.. that and bad base running, missing cut off men, stealing when you shouldn't be, inability to play small ball.. just screams lack of leadership to me. Lack of leadership isn't the reason this season is ass, it just shines brighter because this season is ass.

The injuries are easy to point to as the reason but let us be real. Even before the injuries, the team wasn't right. Nobody but Ozuna was performing to expectations offensively. The only reason we have a winning record is largely because of April.

For those not in the know, this implies some bad sequencing luck. But it seems we’ve had that all year.

are you saying sequencing is only luck.. not lineup construction like having Dufail and Sorryio hitting higher than Murphy every time he plays.. or playing sorryio every single game versus say your mom getting a chance (couldn't be worse).. there is also something called situational hitting that will play into sequencing..

The way this board goes from the depths of despair….to “we are catching Philly in a week,” and then back to standing on the edge of the roof of the Peachtree tower….. in a couple of games … is just beyond impressive.

The idea we were catching Philly never entered my mind.

I personally didn't buy into the catch the faillies hype. The team won a few games because some guys hit homers.. that doesn't sustain a winning streak.. Sorryio has to be DFA'd.. but for whatever reason, they have to hold onto 2021..

No, I don’t believe I did.

Lately the mood swings around here have been more entertaining than the games themselves. They sometimes happen inning to inning.

So Dufail is getting another shot against a righty.. and not only that he is hitting 6th after Arcia and before Murphy and Kelenic..

I swear, it is like twit and the front office is just intentionally trying to tank the season.
