GDT 8/6/24: Braves vs Brewers - Get it together for Elder

say what.. if my 8th grader started sucking in math all of a sudden, I sure would look to the teacher to see what is going on. It might not be her/his fault, but it would be the first place I looked. But that is a bad analogy anyways..

have you ever played a sport. I can think of when I played baseball or golf or basketball.. when you doubt you can win and just go through the motions, you play like crap. right now, this team just seems defeated and bored and just wants this season to end. I don't see any fire. no battles at the plate.. maybe Acuna's energy is missed, I don't know. Maybe they all have some personal crap going on in their lives we don't know about.. maybe they don't like how the pitchers are being babied.. maybe they just suck and the window is closed.. but these guys are lifeless..

So when you ask your 8th grader „How much is 12 x 7?“, and all you get in return is a blank stare, your first impulse is to look at the math teacher?? You don‘t think there may be something wrong with the kid on a deeper level?

So when a guy who set the Atlanta record for homers last season suddenly swings through meatballs right down the pipe, it‘s analogous to the math problem: something that should be easy suddenly isn‘t. I just don‘t see how you can blame that on a lack of leadership. It should be well within his abilities to destroy such pitches, no matter who is standing in the 1B coaching box.

I know the feelings you describe. They typically befall you when your team sucks and the season is hopeless. Not when you‘re in a good position to make the playoffs and still have a lot of talent on your club.
