I thought when guys change leagues after a trade that they "reset" stats. Am I dreaming this or is this how it used to be? Soler's numbers are why I'm asking

I might be wrong about the timing of this change but I believe it went away around the time interleague play started. It could have been before that. I remember Willie McGee winning the NL batting title because when he got traded to Oakland on a waiver deadline deal his AL stats did not count against his NL stats. He wouldn't have won if his Oakland stats counted.
