GDT 9/30/21: Braves vs Philthies - 4 the Sweep and the Division

Damn. Dick Rod's number ended up even worse than I thought for the Braves.

3.12 K/9

6.17 FIP

2.08 HR/9

Dude was lucky as hell with a .200 BABIP and 97.1% LOB rate.

If it were me, I see 11 position player locks (I'm including Adrianza) and 9 pitching locks (not that I necessarily think Martin should be a lock at this point). For the remaining six spots, I'd be keeping Arcia, Pache, Chavez, Webb, Strider, and Smyly.

Rich Rod has been terrible and would have been significantly more terrible if he hadn't been so lucky. Having a long guy like Smyly could have some value if a game gets out of hand. If we're keeping a CF for defense and pinch running, it should be Pache over Heredia ten times out of ten. Guillermo can- and should be- in the dugout still, which is where his primary value lies at this point anyways.

I like carrying Strider just because the RH relievers outside of Jackson aren't very exciting, but I do wonder if it's worth it with Snit. I doubt Snit would actually go to Strider in a meaningful spot.

How is Chavez not a lock?

I have a hard time believing they leave Rodríguez off in favor of Webb. Either should just about be the last option at this point anyway.

Good list.

In fact, after a pitiful August, Smyly's last six appearances (all of September) he was excellent - 2-0, 11 IP, 11 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 8 Ks. Perhaps he was worn down from his unpresidented workload.

I think Chavez has to be a lock. And Strider was certainly impressive and there's president for bringing up guys for the playoffs.

I think Obama pitched for Washington a few years ago if I am remembering correctly....

Fair. He was the easiest call of the last 6 and after further review should fall in the lock category. To be honest, I had never looked at any of his stat profiles and just assumed he was getting outrageously lucky- turns out he really isn't.
