GDT #95: July 13, 2014 Braves (Teheran) @ Cubs (Not Our Wood) 2:20 EST

WTH? We're up by a touchdown and I nod off for a little nap. Wake back up and it's down to a field goal?

Did we give up two safeties?

Unless we add some runs, use Kimbrel, and finish this game out.

No need to get cute.

Since he's been a closer, is there any reason we couldn't let Walden finish this out? That said, Kimbrel could close, as well.

As you said, no need to get cute with a three run lead in the ninth inning.

Braves win!!!!

What place are we in?

Who is our manager?

Thank you.

Heyward
LaStella
MUpton
Simmons
Bethancourt
Laird
CJohnson
Doumit

Of the above, who has the highest slugging percentage? (No tallest midget at the county fair jokes, please.)

Hint: Empty batting average, ****ty defense.

You basically named our worst hitters, save for heyward - who has shown zero power this year

Nice to head into the ASG on a couple of wins and in first place, especially after going into a mini "funk" in which we lost five out of six.

With all of the injuries we had prior to the season, if you'd have told me then that we'd be in this position on July 13th, I'd have taken it in a heartbeat.

Right. My point exactly. So why single him out? Oh, higher than every one of them last year, and within .007 of Mac and JUp.

And a .358 OBP last year. Runner up for the batting title.

Gattis made some fixes after not walking for April and everybody shut up. If CJ walks a bit more, will folks let up on him?

I mean, watch the guy hit. He has a beautiful line drive stroke. He's Lord BABIP at least in part because he hits balls hard. Not because he's lucky.

Let's talk about OBP shall we?

Amongst our regular starters, he is only better than BJ.

When you start talking about iso OBP. He is the worst. Meaning if his bloop singles aren't falling, he is awful.

His iso slugging is worse than everyone except for TLS. Meaning, when he does get his hits, they almost always singles.

His defense is rated last in the league. I know you don't believe that. But it is what it is.

He is slow as hell.

Am I happy he's hot right now? Yes. Good. If he can produce another 2013, then great. But the smarter posters on this board correctly pointed out that last year was unsustainable. And we are seeing that this year.

By the way, I'm comparing him to Braves players... a team that currently ranks 29th in runs. The comparison bar is not set to high, and he is still the 2nd or 3rd worst hitter amongst the starters.
