I think Europe (and the rest of the world) have an overriding interest in a rule-based international system under which a country like Ukraine can make choices of that sort for itself. As opposed to a system where a paranoid and grievance-filled dictator can threaten them (and actually invade them) if they don't do as he wants. It is a choice worth fighting over.

Can you be a bit more granular?

How does Ukraine's membership into the EU impact the citizens of the EU positively and weigh that against what we are now seeing as the clear negative.

For some reason you seem to think that this was just a random incursion with no history prior.

How would you feel if the CCP created an alliance with Mexico and began arming their military? This is literally what Putin sees right now. If you aren't going to try and see that for yourself then thats your decision.

Would that path include reparations for the damage caused and compensation for the families who have suffered losses. It seems to me Vlad the Bad owes these things to Ukraine.
