Hector Olivera signs with the Dodgers

This doesn't sound good for those of us wanting the Braves to land Olivera:

Sources: Number of teams interested in Cuban infielder Hector Olivera has expanded. New representation has sparked interest by more teams.

Ugh. GIVE US SOMETHING LIBERTY!

Mr. President of Baseball Operations, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts.

I would like every one to think about something for a second: Do leagues with salary caps not still get dominated (over time) by the same teams over and over? Look at the NFL, the usual suspects are there every year. Sure, the have not's rise and fall. But isn't that happening in Baseball now? When was the last time the Yankees won a WS? Who was in the WS last year?

All a salary cap does is ensures a minimum level of profitability for owners of all clubs. That's it.

In the NFL the teams that are managed smartly win consistently. There are MLB teams that are managed well that will never win consistently - Rays, A's, etc. You can probably add the Royals and Pirates to that list as well. If the Rays and Red Sox are managed equally well, the Sox are going to do far better over time. In the NFL, if the Broncos and Raiders are managed equally, over time both teams will win about the same amount of championships. No amount of money will overcome stupidity, but in the current economic climate in baseball a lack of money can certainly stifle intelligence.

Sounds as if Olivera was so personally offended at an offer of 4/$32 million so he fired everyone, eh???

I really hate waffling, but honestly think we're better off in the long run if we just pass altogether. The longer I look at it, the worse the situation gets (in the long run at least) if we sign him IMO.

What in the blue hell is going on with this guy.

Source: Hector Olivera is with Genske/Legacy, but is still entertaining pitches from other agents, complicating bid process, raising more ?s

I kinda agree. I he accepts out current offer as is, then great. Otherwise, stop all negotiations with this guy ASAP.
