Hobby Lobby

Thought I would start a separate thread.

Came across this video today. They hypocrisy and stupidity of the left when it comes to this issue is astounding. Enjoy:

57 has gotta be one of those people

Oh, it was interesting to find out that Hobby Lobby sets their own minimum wage for full time hourly workers to $14/hour. Couldn't those individuals use that generous pay to go buy those couple of BC they are being "unlawfully" denied?

"Our elected officials want to turn our democracy into a theocracy. just like the Taliban. What do you think this is about, corporations and government want woman dead."

Have you come to the conclusion that libs are theocrats? Said it before here. They have their revelations, global warming, their infallible leader, godbama. Many more examples if you just think about it.

this made me laugh

Like Chick Fil A?

That would be good thing for Hobby Lobby then. Their sales will go up.

A company liberals could love... Link

"...Insist that for legal purposes there’s no such thing as a religiously motivated business, and you will get fewer religiously motivated business owners — and more chain stores that happily cover Plan B but pay significantly lower wages. Pressure religious hospitals to perform abortions or sex-reassignment surgery (or some eugenic breakthrough, down the road), and you’ll eventually get fewer religious hospitals — and probably less charity care and a more zealous focus on the bottom line. Tell religious charities they have legal rights only insofar as they serve their co-religionists, and you’ll see the scope of their endeavors contract..."

All but one paragraph contains the word "liberal" without ever directly defining or assigning context to the word.
Kind of a shotgun approach - like most everything else Douthat writes

You willing to give it a shot ? Or leave it as a code word accompanied by a wink and a nod

Like I wrote much earlier, contraception policies will come and go. One of the many troubling lasting effects of this ruling is that a corporation can be given 1st amendment rights as if they were a breathing / walking /talking human being. Hobby Lobby gets to have tax and other benefits afforded corporate status. Yet, the human owners of HL (for example) get to shield themselves from lawsuit while having the advantages of making protected personal decisions .
What is personal and what is corporate?

We disagree on contraception, I get that, but I think if you scratched the surface of the ruling you would find your initial opinion shallow.

Why not give that blanket description of "liberal" a shot - the word gets bandied about ---- often.
I am curious to see what you and others are referring to

Of course they can. But what they can't do is fire workers for voting for Obama or deny a workers legal rights .

They don't get to decide. Yes it is their company but -- and that is a huge but, If they expect favorable tax benefits at taxpayer expense (you,me and the man behind the tree) they are also bound to the rules and regulations that guide those favorable tax (legal) benefits.

I see a distinct line between corporate rights and personal rights.
If Mom and Pop are incorporated they are exempt from personal liability should citizen "A" slips and falls down their steps -- that to me is fair
Does Mom and Pop get the privileged of forcing or being able to fire their employees to vote Obama --- no they don't (though they should :). They surrendered that when they incorporated

So, do you support the government telling that store they must take their sign down? After all, you said above they do not get 1st amendment rights

How can a ruling that allows more freedom be a bad ruling?

Did you watch the video above? Your supporters are total idiots.

My wife and Terry Gross of Fresh Air begin questions with "So ..."
you apparently already have an answer

my answer? is the government has better things to do than monitor who puts up what sign where.
I along with many don't believe Hobby Lobby should have been a Supreme Court case

If Mom and Pop are incorporated and there are valid complaints the court (not the government) can compel Mom and Pop to take the sign down

My supporters?

Can I lump you in with Westboro Baptist, Todd Aiken and Sarah Palin?
Or since Ron Paul associated with bigots can I assume you too are a bigot?
David Duke? You both agree on a number of issues
That was my point to Bedell earlier today

I'd like to think you have your own opinions and mobs don't speak for you.

"How can a ruling that allows more freedom be a bad ruling?"

Paul Simon once wrote a song called The Apartment Blues. A line goes

"one mans ceiling
is another mans floor"

gotta go back to work

LOL

What I have noticed about this court is that the conservative activist axis loves the idea that freedom=money=speech. This decision, like Citizens United, underscores that.

Perhaps Bedell can take a few minutes from a) missionarying to Yeezus or b) pontificating on the wayward ways of the Obama Administrations IRS / Issa dust up to explain what he means when he labels or dresses in shirts people who disagree with him as "liberals" ?

I'm not holding my breath
