I agree in concept with the (L) position on FP but also understand foreign policy rarely if ever follows through as planned
Your question makes me wonder what difference between (D) and (R) platform position on foreign policy
Because everyone is against foreign involvement until their house is 10 feet under water (or something like that )
My method is judge an individual candidates temperament and try to project that on how they would respond in crisis. Which was why I voted for Obama in 08 rather than HRC
