I think FW plans on making a splash beofre trade deadline

That's strictly because of defense.

And he's at 2.2 this year after 4 years at about half of that.
The deal was only two years, but if he returns to the player he was the last 4 years before this one, that's not really a bargain.

Who are you guys talking about?

I have an idea it's between Andrew Miller, Cameron Maybin, and Seth Smith. I saw something mentioned about hitting so I can throw out Miller. Only leaves Maybin and Smith.

I said Bethancourt can't hit, apparently that's blasphemy and not true.

I just prefer not to judge a guy based on his first 10 games worth of OPS. I think that's dumb.

CB has always needed a adjustment period once jumping up a level. I don't expect Mickey Mantle, but I'm certainly not capping the ceiling of a guy who has tools to get better. Apparently you do at 580 ops. I guarantee he exceeds that. I disagree with your ceiling. Once again, I got it. No need to continue.

At the most deficient offensive position in the league, he will work fine and have value. I disagree on your point he doesn't have value.

What about his minor league career leads you to believe he can hit though? His BEST season was 2013 and he posted a .305 OBP. He doesn't know how to take a walk (and never has) and doesn't have power. His only saving grace is that he doesn't K a lot.
Where did I say he tops out at .580? It is entirely possible he's a .650 OPS or below catcher. Based on his career, it's safe to assume that. Is it possible he eventually gets better? Of course. But right now, his value is not "very high" to any team. We may never know, but I'll say his trade value isn't all that high. And as far as we know, he can't hit.

Bethancourt has always been aggresively promoted. He was never allowed to post big stats because as soon as he figured out a league and went on a hot streak he would get promoted.

Most of his value offensively is going to come from his batting average but this is also one of the worst offensive positions to play. If he can hit .280 and play gold glove defense that's pretty good for the league minimum. Having that kind of roleplayer allows us to have the big contracts at other positions.

He never stayed at a level long enough after it clicked for him to accrue the eye popping stats. I bank in him making improvements and you don't. Cool.

Lol , now he is a 650 ops guy. Making strides already I guess.

What makes you believe he can hit .280? And when has he ever "figured out" a league?
I'm not one to be down on our guys, but I don't see at all where the hope for his bat is. He's hit .280 in the minors once and that was in 2011 at Rome when he hit .303. He doesn't take walks so a low average isn't OK. He has some value for sure, you have to love his defense. But a guy who can't hit will have limited value. Plain and simple. When has a guy like CB ever been valued highly in a trade?

"Making strides"? When did I EVER say he was a .580 OPS guy? I said his OPS is .580 so far in response to you questioning "lol he's been good but can't hit, got it." He has been a terrible hitter so far in the majors, and was below average in the minors. You're arguing with me just to argue. Literally every single stat is on my side and you have zero on yours. Congrats for taking that stance. It's a long shot. Guys that don't walk and don't have power don't typically end up as good hitters. I stated it's possible he develops. It's always possible. But calling him a bad hitter at this point so far in his career is hardly far fetched. "Banking" on him making improvements is far fetched. I think you'll lose some money.

He is a baby with some tools. Call me the thethe of braves fans, but I don't close the book on one of our bigger prospects of the passed 5-6 years that just took his first swings in the majors. I think that's retarded.

His path to te majors was aggressive as both Cajun and I have noted. I guess that means nothing to you, and once again I got it. Move on.

It blows my mind that strongly questioning CB's bat is being hammered on here. It makes much more sense to question it than to think he'll somehow put it together, despite never being able to thus far except for a minor power surge last season. Personally I would not bet on a guy with no track record of hitting to suddenly start hitting. Sure it happens, but it's rare. I cannot comprehend why it's so crazy for me to be questioning his bat. Are we serious?

I don't mind disagreeing with people.
What exactly are his "tools" offensively? Can you at least answer that? What does he do well?
I'm guessing you want to "move on" because you have nothing to back up your stance.

I want to move on because I disagree about your evaluation of value and you won't convince me and I won't convince you.

I understand your position, I just disagree flat out.

He makes plenty of contact, hasn't looked overmatched at all in his cup of coffee, has decent foot speed (had some SBs in lower minors so not a negative on the paths) and build to add strength a plenty... Tools.

You aren't "questioning". You have already decided.

Mind blown? That was easy. It's like you are new here or something.

Have I decided? Thanks for informing me on my thoughts!
As of right now, HE CAN'T HIT. Right now, in any trade, he will be looked at as a defense-only player. The Braves may try and sell this rosy view that you have to other teams, but they won't buy it. They will look at his career and say "We aren't betting on his bat developing." There are very few signs. Sorry if you don't see that. It's a long shot. You've apparently decided he's the next Yadi Molina. I have strong doubts, and that's easier to understand than your stance.
