If the Padres move Kimbrel

CJC

Mashin' to Mississippi
Should we try to get him back?

Saw on the MLB Channel today that the Padres are looking to be sellers with Upton an Kimbrel. Upton's contract situation still doesn't make sense for us, but would bring Kimbrel back make sense?

If so, what would you be willing to give up?

Grilli.

:Alone:

I would give them Grilli, Teheran, Perez, and CJ for Kimbrel and Renfroe.

Not sure why Renfoe is considered this can't miss guy.

I wouldn'tmake that deal and honestly I wouldn't want to give up anything of significance for Kimbrel. I think we canfill the closer position via bargain deals (Grilli) or internally.

Renfroe will not be a quality major league player. He's hyped simply on tools alone... he has shown nothing more than being a solid minor leaguer. Nothing special.

Renfroe IS struggling a bit this year. Might have to get them to throw in Norris. :icon_biggrin: Would love to see Renfroe and Norris under Seitzer.

Kimbrell ain't comin' back - why would the front office do that ?

Because he's still the best closer we could hope for in 2017, and they haven't let a fast start from Grilli make them forget how hard it was to replace Smoltz.

An "elite" closer is a luxury for a team in rebuild mode. It'd be nice to get him back but shouldn't be high priority.

Elite closers seem to be overvalued, so I would be very reluctant to trade for guys like Kimbrel, Chapman, Holland, etc. What Preller gave us for Kimbrel was flat-out absurd, even with Maybin being viewed as a salary dump at the time.

If I'm Preller, I'm not sure I'd even consider an offer from the Braves on Kimbrel because he'd look real foolish trading him back to us for a significantly lesser package.

This is the truth. I doubt they will give the Braves much consideration.

You can't predict any pitcher 2 years out let alone a closer with miles

Amazing how quickly lots of opinions change after 3 months of just having an "adequate" Closer, isn't it?

Teheran still has too much value to trade for a closer that is already getting paid.

I think he's pitching injured (or pitching different from a temporary injury) and that it will lead to an arm injury before the year is out. I sure hope not.

I hear you, I just see very little evidence that he's pitching injured other than the fact that he's struggling a bit more (which young pitchers often do).

You can argue whether he's injured or not, but there is PLENTY evidence that he changed his delivery and approach after getting hit in the knee and hasn't been right consistently since. Such changes often lead to arm/shoulder injuries.

I might agree if his numbers were consistently down. But it's so clearly just a problem on the road that I don't think it's an injury. It's something in his confidence on the road.
