It was never reported that Laz would sign today... Badler simply said he might sign with a team... Big difference... Meaning he's not too sure

Lazarito was quoted as to saying he wanted to make a decision today, but God might have a different plan. I took that as saying, I like some of the offers on the table, but I want more.

Dave Cameron over at Fangraphs is also pretty sure the Braves are getting Maitan. From his latest chat:

It could also be a good sign for us. While I don't think it'd actually get blocked, I do agree Laz probably wouldn't actually come out and say he's signing with a team in July and name the team.

Yeah. I think it might get leaked which team he'd "signed" with, but his official statement would probably be "I've decided to wait to sign."

From what I've read, Maitan is obviously the clear #1 and Gutierrez may be #2.

Guys I'd really like from this list are Maitan, Gutierrez, Morejon, and Ornelas. Also, I could've sworn Alfredo Rodriguez already signed with the Reds.

My bad... I missed the direct quote from him. I just saw what Badler said at first.
 
not sure if this was posted and I missed it yesterday..

Sources: Lazarito Armenteros is still weighing his options. It's going to be a family decision. The plan was to make a decision today.

Not sure if it was Badler a few days ago, but they said that him possibly waiting to resign and just having worked out for the Braves would be a big coincidence. Maybe the Braves told him he could play any position he wants while matching any other offer. But something is up it seems. He obviously can't come out and name a team for the new signing period but if he does wait you have to think the Braves are the possible favorites.
 
Still not sure I would call us the favorite. That article basically says he can't make up his mind and he is not close to making a decision. He could sign next week with the Dodgers when they kick in 5 more million. I am sorry, this whole thing reeks of smelly fish.. I think they are playing the system to get the most money.. and I don't disagree with their approach.. They know the closer it gets to July 2, the more likely teams that can't sign him after that date will push harder to get him..

question.. does the 2015/16 signing period end July 1st or when season begins? I thought it was July 1st.. but I was reading something, don't remember what, that said if the season starts and he hasn't signed, then he will have to wait until July 2nd..
 
I thought it was the season starting to but i'll have to check. I'm sure the Dodgers are offering alot. But if somebody makes him feel at home and he really likes what the Braves have said and done so far then who knows.

Per MLB rules..

B. Signing Period
For purposes of determining compliance with a Club’s Signing
Bonus Pool, a signing period shall begin on July 2nd and end
on June 15th the following year. The period between June 15
and July 2 will be a “closed period” in which international
players may not sign contracts.
 
I'd love to get Lazarito, but Maitan is my main goal right now. Guiterriez is close. Get those guys and I'm happy.
 
I agree about Maitan and Guttierez. I'd be more than happy to have those guys. Lazaro would just be a bonus.
