Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

There were considerable protests to Northam remaining in office. But, if you apply the Ron Paul “that was 30 years ago” standard to it, it must be ok with you, right? You’re Mr. Consistent Principles, no?

But let’s do just get on record for when and where the n-word is ok.

Your obsession with Ron Paul is cute.

Did he ever use the N word?

Regardless, continue justifying this. Now we can dig up every comment, text, social media post a teen has ever made.

Amazing society the socialists are building.

Are you ready to fire Jeong? Northam? Franken? Gunn?

Is this the new standard?

People can't learn from their 16 year old selves? What a world yall have made. luckily, the only viticms happen to not be liberal

Honestly, dude, how is just not a question of entitlement? Your argument is that this kid is entitled to an admission slot at Harvard. I’m honestly not arsed one way or another if he gets in, because there are, God knows, enough problems with that process as it is. But you’re seriously going to tell me that it’s unfair for them to pull his admission, as if there aren’t hundreds of equally qualified applicants who
aren’t just casually racist?

Honestly dude if the new standard for college admissions is the media unleashing on teenagers past, then that is fine. We shall see if they apply both ways. I'll look forward to you updating this thread with the university withdrawing a leftist from university based on something like "all whites must die"

Of course that will never happen because it will never happen. The mob works in one way and half the country defends it bc it works in the socialist anti speech favor.

I'll ask again... do you support Bidens run being over? Jeong fired? Gunn fired? This isn't hard... wanna be consistent? Wanna apply a state approved speech or not?

Whats the line then on what someone like Kashuv be able to enjoy? Can he go to Yale?

How about get a job of a fortune 500 company?

Can he get a bank loan?

Im interrsted in how you score transgressions and pleasure taken away.

He can do all those things. I just won’t object to Harvard choosing not to let him into their private institution.

If for some ****ing reason David Hogg wanted to go to Liberty University, I’d have no issue with them turning him down because he said he was Pro-Choice or something. It’s unusual that an 18-year-old has any sort of media notoriety and if that coincides with them doing something a private institution disagrees with, then I’m fine with it.

it seems to me what Harvard is doing here is much less malign than what the Oregon and Colorado bakers did...and I do think Harvard should not be revoking this kid's admission

You brought up Ralph Northam. More than once. So, my simple question is that if you think that he should quit over his college blackface picture, how does that square with your “30 years ago” argument with respect to Ron Paul’s newsletters?

But, I do wonder what this kid has done to learn from his two-years-ago self? I’m sure he’s put in a ton of work before this became public, right?

Because Julio is the one who assumes guilt based on 30 years ago.

So be consistent. Why arent you outraged this racist is still in power?

You may wish to go back and I said Northams racism shouldnt take him out of office. But its good enough for Julio with Paul. It's good enough for Julio wit Kasuv.

Weirdly, it doesn't matter with Northam. It doesn't matter with Jeong.

What on earth could be the difference!!!!???

But, more to the point, how do college admissions work if not judging the actions of 16-17-year olds?

But this kid should get a do-over...why, exactly?

At what point did I argue for Northam staying in office? Do please find that for me.

As for Sarah Jeong, yeah, er, whatever.

So let me get this straight..... because a kid said some racist things they want to deny him an education? Here I thought the best thing to fight ignorance was education. This is just going to drive the kid to some school like Alabama where his ignorance will just be reinforced. The kid isnt going to chance his opinion because of this, he will only be more careful who he says what to. That is not fixing the problem.

The first problem I have is that I do not believe this will be enforced evenly. I highly doubt there will be consequences for Harvard Students who say hateful things about white people or men. Just as an example, calling a white person racist just based off the color of their skin or saying their opinion doesnt matter because the point of their skin is just as racist as this kid.

My other concern is that this is going to expand. Can I go to Harvard if I only believe in 2 genders? What if I think theres an epidemic of false sexual assault accusations? What if I dont believe in White Privilege? How far down this rabbit hole are we going to go? Change peoples mind through debate and discussion. I thought thats what college was for.... they keep saying they want diversity but specifically ban certain viewpoints.

We’re...still...somehow throwing around words like “censorship” and “free expression.” And I’m still not sure where those principles have been violated.

cause they haven't

they have tried to turning not making money from hate speech from the radical right into "i'm being censored and not making money any more from it with a 1st amendment rights issue of free speech" into a beyond elementary argument of 1st amendment rights

the worst of the worst are saying they are entitled to a platform to make money with their hate speech and not only that but

they should also get paid for it

the right that trump has brought in is the worst of the worst of this country.

How do you define hate speech? If this is limited to people saying things like "******s need to die" thats fine. Thats not where this will go though. Its eventually going to be bans for saying there are 2 genders. Bans for saying anything opposite of PC. Ron Paul institute executives were suspended on twitter the day after Alex Jones. Please go ahead and find me their hate speech.

All of this.

What we are seeing now is the Trump adjacent impact. Although neither are related KK is a Conservative which is now being likened to Trump so the lefttist mob feels they are 'winning' over Trump. Thats all this is about.

I'm sure this will qualify under Twitter's targeted hate speech policies, right?

Right??

And here's a Republican introducing legislation to limits free expression.

The slope is slippery and both sides will race to to the bottom
