Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

What do leftists need to see before they grow some concern over the terrorist they align with?

I don't expect sturg to apologize and admit he's wrong, but fucking hell. This thread sure when quiet when it slowly became more clear this guy was anti-mormon. Everyone needs to chill out and stop fucking making every shooting political. Some people are just fucked in the head.

Sad this guy set aside his wife and special needs child because he couldn’t get over an ex girlfriend from years ago.

Iraq War really did a number on those soldiers

Obviously he cosplayed as MAGA for years just so he could make them look bad. They keep talking about taking guns away from Trans people but almost every mass shooter I see is a white man.

The other part of this is religion and mental illness is like pouring gasoline on a fire. If we paid attention we would see its a serious problem that needs dealing with, but we only know one way. Try incarcerating your way out of a problem only to make it ten times worse.

and very often raised by conservative families in very conservative parts of the country

not just mass shooters but also the guys who assassinate or try to assassinate prominent people

i don't have a dog in the fight regarding permissive/less permissive parenthood...i'm middle-of-the-road as far as that goes...but it is an interesting observation

i wouldn't say it is a question of religiosity...to the extent there is a pattern it is alienation from a particular kind of environment

music and spice (or joy for lack of a better word) is something that seems to be lacking from a lot of these loners' lives

life is always a mix...but if you can't find some joy to balance the bad then you are more likely to go over the edge

Its kinda how the suicides in red states are done by leftists.

Can you imagine being surrounded by a bunch of a racist fascist bigots every day? Suicide is a mercy!

unfortunately death certificates don't list party id or political ideology...otherwise we might be able to test your proposition

I’m not sure what I find more ridiculous:

A $120,000 Rally Fee for demonstrators to pay. (I get that it’s for services, but either a demonstration is legal and safe or it isn’t. I can’t find a way in which it actually makes sense to have the fee)

The idea that waiving such a fee is some insane burden on the Texan tax payer.

Donald Trump threatening to sue someone over any of this.

This is interpretation.

Its an extension of screaming fire in a movie theatre.

Flag burning is done with the intention of inciting a visceral reaction. If the SC overturned that ruling would you change your mind because thats the only reason this is deemed constitutionally protected speech.
Dementia Don was more in reference to his delivery of that 30 second incoherent bunch of nonsense.

If SCOTUS overturned that ruling I would say they made a terrible mistake and got the case wrong.

Where is the line then? HOw do you determine that?

Should someone be able to scream fire in a movie theatre?

When it meets the criteria set forth in Brandenburg v Ohio, which I think did a pretty good job of laying out the threshold:

Is there intent to provoke lawless action AND is the action likely to produce immediate violent behavior AND is the act explicitly advocating for violence/lawlessness

Burning a flag generally goes 0/3 on that scale. The person doing the burning could also be saying or doing something else that satisfies those three criteria, but then the issue at hand would be that other thing they’re saying/doing.
