Is Free Speech Under Attack in this Country?

Gotta rewrite history.

Crazy yall don't see whats happening. Orwell never dreamed the press would do the governments bidding for them

This has nothing to do with attacks on free speech. Cotton’s team got pissy about something Newsweek wrote and they responded by doing something dumb. Neither side looks good here, but it’s not ****ing 1984.

Edit: Actually, it really comes down to whether or not the correction is accurate or not to determine if Newsweek even did the wrong thing at all. If it’s true that graduating Ranger school and not then joining the Rangers isn’t by definition becoming a Ranger, then Newsweek corrected their reporting based on new information brought to their attention. I will not be checking, because it’s an idiotic debate about an idiotic Senator.

Keep defending this ****. This is at least the 2nd time this has happened. The first was more egregious

Every speech platform must be approved by the ministry of truth

No matter how much I hate liberals I would never think of censoring them or limiting thier choice of occupations due to thier beliefs. What petty little bitches they are.

I love people who use Orwell as their example of something

But are obviously not versed in Orwell

It’s good stuff.

Word of the Day

id·i·o·syn·cra·sy | \ ˌi-dē-ə-ˈsiŋ-krə-sē \
plural idiosyncrasies
Definition of idiosyncrasy
1a: a peculiarity of constitution or temperament : an individualizing characteristic or quality
b: individual hypersensitiveness (as to a drug or food)
2: characteristic peculiarity (as of temperament)
broadly : ECCENTRICITY

If a platform (whether a local paper or twitter) chose not to allow me to publish my views, I would not view that as censorship or an attack on my freedom of speech or expression.

However, if a member of government proposed or enacted legislation that limited or penalized me when I protest or speak in a particular place, I would generally consider that an attack on my rights.

Yes. You consider anything not executed by the feds as not censoring people.

We disagree.

Thats been firmly established

It's perfectly ok to disagree on something like this. Doesn't make me or you Orwellian or whatever. We have different conceptions of what is involved in censorship and freedom of expression.

I think you've missed out on some pretty big attacks on free speech in the past year, including some ongoing ones.

I also think you've been reluctant to call out armed militias who have showed up at rallies expressly for the purpose of intimidating or disrupting other people from exercising their rights.

My position on riots has been consistent. People who trespass, destroy property, and hurt people should be arrested

You only feel that way some of the time.

But I'm more concerned about the corporate alignment with government to silence unwanted speech than I am a bunch of pissed off mostly peaceful protesters.

"corporate alignment with government?"

um...i think we just went through an intense experience where corporations stood up to the president (who last time I checked was head of state and government) in this country
