Jecki Lon Memorial Star Wars Thread

Part of the problem with your logic of known property is Lightyear is a known property and failed miserably.

Lightyear was completely different from Toy Story though. It was based on a known property, but was something completely new/original. A complete different risk than most "prequel/sequel" movies face. And it met with the obvious COVID barriers as well

Bing Bing Bing we have a winner. People aren't going to films because of quick D+ releases. Disney has finally started adjusting that. As have other studios. Dune vs. Dune 2 is a great example of that.

Seems like studios have corrected their behavior and are going back mostly to theatrical release followed by home video sales followed by streaming. We'll see if that reflects in the next big MCU film with Captain AMerica.

Personally I wish MCU would scale back it's budget and focus on more smaller tighter stories. Don't need planet/universe stakes. It's IMO why the Spiderman films are so good. It's your friendly neighborhood spiderman. He's saving his neighborhood and friends and family. Even NWH which had multiversal impacts still felt like it mainly impacted the world.

I also feel like Marvel isn't using the Multiverse to it's maximum potential as it would allow them to easily do another Iron Man in a different universe.

Not really.

I don't feel compelled to do so because I view them as infallible.

You apparently do. GLWT!

No you want to hate on them because they're "woke" because your idols tell you that. You listen to idiots on twitter/youtube/whatever who spew non-facts and treat them like facts.

The difference between you and I is
1. I actually have some knowledge of quality TV and film.
2. I actually think for myself. I don't read what other people say online then come in and repeat them.

1. Not really. You think you do which is different. You tell people you do a lot though. Thats called compensation
2. I don't read what other people think about stuff. I come here and voice my opinion and usually leave until some spineless cuck comes here telling me my opinion is wrong and read it somewhere. We all see that your opinion isn't self generated, its driven to praise whatever Disney tells you to. End of story (see 6+ pages of excuses for them putting out a **** show)

I'm not arguing against 5 or 6 people. i'm arguing against 2 people who've consistently proven little star wars knowledge.

You have the worst takes on SW. Just say Acolyte isn’t as good as it could be. Admit the last trilogy of movies was subpar to the first six

1. No I actually do. You see I spend a chunk of time analyzing, my wife is a film major. I've done so much more than you have. You just think you know **** but you're just wrong. Just keep enjoying Yellowstone. It's fine to like lowest common denominator stuff.
2. Right you don't get anyone else's opinion,s you just parrot what well known grifters say. You get that organically, not from other sources. GOT IT. What's funny is fi you had any critical reading skills you'd know I haven't really even heavily praised the acolyte. I've praised parts of it similar to Kenobi or Book of Boba Fett where parts of it are good. But I haven't been praising the series universally. I know it's not a 1/10 and anyone with half a brain would know that.

Don’t forget a lot of people didn’t watch it because Tim Allen got replaced

I mean Acolyte isn't as good as Andor, so yeah I guess it's not as good as it could be. And you're just plain wrong on films. Last Jedi is the best star wars film since Empire Strikes back. If you think otherwise that's OK. People are allowed to have wrong opinions. I look forward to in 10-15 years when idiots are hating on the new trilogy of films and praising the sequels. Because if one thing has taught me anything is that Star Wars fandom is a flat circle. Fans didn't like ESB when only compared to ANH, didn't like RotJ when compared to ESB and ANH, didn't like rereleases when compared to original, didn't like TPM when compared to original, then proceed to hate all sequels, But when new content comes out they start hyping up the prequels.

If people didn't go to see Light year because of Tim Allen being replaced, they are too stupid to consume media.

That’s crazy. I know plenty of people who like the band Queen but they won’t go see queen with a different singer, because it’s not the same band. Lightyear is not the same movie without its voice everyone knows. Queen is not the same band without its voice everyone knows.

The fact you think that's comparable does explain a lot.

Believe it or not, people don't like seeing their beloved characters replaced.

Didn't you mention earlier in the thread how livid fans would be if they did a Star Wars movie/show that took place after ROTJ but replaced Luke and the gang with different actors?

Everyone says they want Heir to the Empire, but it takes place 3 or 4 years after battle of endor, Mark Hammill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher are 30+ years older than when they last played the characters. Never was there going to be anything like what you want unless it was animated or you recast and you think fans wouldn't have shat a brick about that? Imagine if Carrie Fisher died while someone else played Princess Leia?

This you zeets?

Yes, fans who never got a chance to see Luke and crew after the first films would have been livid. I don't think they're right necessarily (like I think recasting Han and Lando for Solo is brilliant)

But remind me how that's comparable to what we're talkign about? Again FWIW I would have been fine with Allen. But he's older. 71, he's effectively 30 years older than Chris Evans. Which one do you think would do a better job capturing the feel of a lets say middle aged or young Buzz Lightyear? They can explain it away by saying Tim Allen voiced the toy (which is silly) but at some point you need to recast. OG toy story came out 30 years ago (29 to be specific) I consider it similar to if you made a live action CLone Wars show woudl you want Hayden and Ewan playing their characters from 20+ years ago? No. Which is why in the post I made I said it would make the people who already bitched at the sequels still bitch.
