John Hart - President, Baseball Operations

**** our front office

what a joke

People are making such a big deal out of nothing. It's just titles. Basically Hart was just named GM and Coppolella stayed assistant. The only difference is that the Braves are for now calling the GM position President of Baseball Operations. I imagine it is so they can keep Hart around for as long as they want.

The new team will have an important opportunity in the 2015 draft. We have the 16th pick and possibly another pick around 30 if we make a qualifying offer for Santana.

Assistant President or Assistant to the President?

This is very important that people know their titles. I assume a couple will get the joke here.

Boy, does he look thrilled.

Happens all the time. No one had the official title in the 60s, when Eddie Robinson was the de facto GM.

When Bill Lucas was the "first black GM in baseball" for the Braves, his title was Director of Player Personnel (Ted Turner wore the GM label for years).

Sorry if so many of my posts winds up coming out like a lecture. But ignorance of history is no excuse to ignore it.

I'm convinced that this is the set up JS wanted all along. He wanted to keep Coppy, but he wanted to have Hart around to lead Coppy and show him the ropes. The moves that were made (bringing in Gordon Blakley, keeping Rick Williams, bringing back Roy Clark, promoting Brian Bridges) all suggested that they were going to stay in house. This will be similar to what the Rangers had with Hart and John Daniels. The great thing about Coppy is that he is a new age guy, but he knows enough and has enough good people around him to not base everything off metrics like some want.

In all honesty, this bromance between JS and Hart out in the open is really really getting weird.

Not sure if Bobby is happy about essentially being the 3rd Wheel.

I have no way of knowing, but I imagine that Bobby's prominence in this is as much about reassuring/placating the fans (and maybe luring back some of the old hands) as anything. There are a lot of cooks in the kitchen right now.

I was in no way referring to actual baseball operations and duties, I was talking about Bobby being the 3rd Wheel while John and John hold hands in the front seat while driving.
