Julion Teheran over the Years

The .247 BABIP he currently has will come up but the 3.43 FIP is still really good. It's just not ace level. And that's the thing. Julio is not an ace but if we can spin him as one and trade him as one with a very affordable contract then I think that's something you have to consider.

I don't think he needs to be an ace. I'll take his 200 innings of really solid pitching. i think those innings every year are extremely valuable.

Think we could get the Red Sox to part with Devers for Julio?

Power hitting 3B would fill a big void in our farm system.

Julio's not an ace...yet. He's just 25. If he can stay healthy there's a good chance he continues to refine his game and improves. He very well could have a window of a couple years of ace level production when he hits his prime. That's actually a reason to not trade him. Julio will be hitting that prime about the same time our window opens.

This is true. Sometimes you forget how young he is. I believe he's a good #2 and at his contract that's extremely valuable. 20 million dollar pitcher making on avg 9 million the next 4 years. So that has a ton of value to this team as it starts to try and contend again. I wouldn't trade him unless we get the Miller Package.

That's where I'm at. I have no desire to trade Julio. Having a $20 million pitcher for $9 million is great for this club. However, given our volume of young pitchers and our need for offense, if I could get a Miller type package I would deal Julio.

I really think we are pretty much all on the same page here... with a few exceptions. Most of us are willing to trade for a big return, but are happy to keep him unless the haul is game changing.

I know there are a few who think he has to be traded, and a few who think he should be kept at all costs...

The Braves will only trade right-hander Julio Teheran if they can get a major league hitter of similar quality and age in return, general manager John Coppolella told Rosenthal. “The days of us trading players like Teheran for prospects are over. We need to get better at the major league level. We would have to be overwhelmed to move Teheran,” Coppolella said. Teheran, 25, is off to a strong start this year (2.57 ERA, 8.43 K/9, 2.43 BB/9 in 63 innings) and is signed to a reasonable contract through 2020.

So, the question is, who is a comparable hitter to Julio as a pitcher currently in the league that is around the same age (24-26)?

In my opinion, I think Julio to the Dodgers for Joc Pederson makes a good bit of sense for both teams.

I like that a lot, actually. Dude is having a strong year offensively and you can throw him in Left with Ender and Mallex and mitigate his defensive limitations.

I can't see that sort of trade happening in season. No team that needs Julio down the stretch is going to trade us one of their best hitters for him.

In the offseason, I could see the Dodgers matching up with Joc Pederson or the Pirates with Starlin Marte.

A few years ago I saw a Braves game from 89 or 90 on ESPN classics and as I was watching the commentators were talking about how Glavine was on the trading block but he likely wasnt going to be traded because he had a sore elbow. Sometimes the best trades are the ones you dont make.

Marte is a pretty interesting idea, since the Pirates have Josh Bell waiting in the wings along with Meadows behind him after that. Marte is also signed for about as long as Julio (one year extra). Would be a pretty good move on both ends really.

That would probably be underselling Marte for the Pirates. He's been a 5+ WAR player for going on 4 years now.

as mentioned, Springer, Piscotty, Lindor, Castellanos Jose Ramirez...etc guys between 22-25 with a good bit of control remaining and in that 3-4 WAR range

It's weird how far apart BR and Fangraphs WAR are on certain players. Marte hasn't been over 5 WAR ever and was 3.6 last year on FG. Marte definitely has much higher value going by BR WAR.

Today, if a pitcher broke into the league the way Tom did back in 1987, fans would be all over him. Tom's first 50 innings produced a 5.54 ERA, 3.6 SO9, 5.9 BB9, 5.51 FIP, and a 1.748 WHIP.

Showing my age a little here, but in 1987, Tom Glavine and Pete Smith were the young bucks that broke into the league. Both got 195 innings in 1988 at the age of 22. 21 year old John Smoltz broke into the rotation with 64 innings that year and a 5.48 ERA, 5.28 FIP, 1.672 WHIP, 5.2 SO9, 4.6 BB9.

Yeah, I think BR gives a little more weight to defense. Either way, though, Marte has been better to this point in his career than Teheran.
