Kemp and the Quest for 1 bWAR

No he won't OPS 1.000. But I'm not sure why .900'.950 isn't possible. This us a high level talent.

He's done that only twice in his career, about 5 years ago. It just isn't likely at an older age and with the nagging injuries he's had. I'm sure he'll finish this season around the .900 OPS mark if he stays healthy enough to reach 500-600 at bats. But it's far more likely his future performance will fall in line with his career averages. And a mid .800 OPS hitter with bad defense just isn't super valuable, especially at his price.

So what's Kemp's bWAR now?

Predictably, it is decreasing as his BABIP is normalizing and his defense continues to be putrid.

You saying he's gonna ops over .950 the rest of the way? I disagree

I doubt he will OPS that high the rest of the way. But he's probably going to need to OPS in the high 800's the rest of the way to reach 1 bWAR. I will do another calculation tomorrow once today's stats are all in.

Right. He's lost 1 run against LFs and 2 to positional adjustment. So he's an average left fielder OPSing .950.

WAR. What is it good for?

Anyone know what Greg Vaughn's WAR/DWAR was in 98-99 when he posted some big slugging numbers? Trying to find a Kemp comp. Offensive slugger but horrible defender.

Didn't even have uzr or drs data back then so it wouldn't really compare. A comp for kemp is Adam Dunn.

The reason it's so hard to find a comp for Kemp is because few teams are stupid enough to leave such a poor defender in the OF very long. Trumbo is a very good comparison, and he sees very little time in the OF anymore.
