Legal/scotus thread

I honestly don't care what anyone's position on this is so long as they've given it thought and consideration and understand that someone disagreeing with them doesn't make that person evil.

I agree with you. That one guy from South Bend said tonight that he’s in favor of legal abortion up until the actual birth. Roe vs Wade doesn’t even agree with that

Dem hopefuls are pandering to the far left wing. It's what candidates do in primaries as it's the wackadoodles that vote.

The idea that the SCOTUS justices always vote in blocks is misguided. When it's a big time social issue, they tend to close rank. Since those cases get the most coverage, they give the impression of two camps at war with one another.

The vast majority of SCOTUS cases are about much more technical aspects of the law and you frequently see groupings of justices that would look weird on a high profile case. For example, another case today (Albrecht) saw a 9-0 decision on a case dealing with preemption of state law in regards to drug warning labels. There was also an 8-1 decision (Tempnology, LLC) in a bankruptcy case in which Gorsuch was the only dissent.

so are you telling me that when Roe v Wade is finally overturned,
the deciding vote will be cast by the guy who was so
blackout drunk all through high school that he can't remember
which women he sexually assaulted? good ****ing job, America

I know it's pedantic but it annoys me when people talk about over turning Roe v Wade. The current controlling case is Planned Parenthood v Casey. That's the case that would be over turned.

It’s just a fetus

No reason to give it adjectives or make it more than it is

I’d take yours and the rest of the “religious” (I do think you are very religious) opinion on the matter if y’all supported more things to help those that aren’t wanted by the “pro life” movement ftr

"It's just a fetus." -- Doesn't work that way. Not scientifically. Not logically. The fetus has DNA. Is it human DNA or what? You know the answer.

You also don't know what I support or don't support. Stop assuming that you do -- assuming enough to not take my opinion.

Whether killing a fetus should be a crime or not depends on what its status is. What rights it has and duties it's owed.

If you decide it's the same as any other person you should be out campaigning to outlaw abortion.

If you decide it has no status, you should be out campaigning against abortion as violating women's rights.

My only point is that deciding what the status of a fetus is is a personal decision with no objective answer.

Do you make no decision?

So if a husband and wife decide not to have any more children after having four, should we mourn the unborn fifth child and that child's never to be born children and grandchildren?

Or is it different if that unborn fifth child was never conceived?

Does the difference arise at the moment of conception or a later point?

Are you asking the difference between a hypothetical fetus/child and a real one?
