Lets get a poll on this things to get a feel of where we stand.

Gattis has hit more than a little bit. And yes he has a part in that. Knowing that Simmons, Bossman, etc. suck, why bat them at the top? that's his fault.

Pretty much. He was rolling with BJ and Simmons in the 1 and 2 hole for awhile and they were our worst hitters. That makes no sense and is clearly on the manager.

Agreed, i dont think it makes a massive difference though.

BJ is on his way to a projected (ZIPS) -15.2 wRAA, Jason is on his way to a (again ZIPS) Jason is on his way to an 11.9 wRAA. Bossman loses about 1.5 runs every 50 PA Jason gains about .5 every 50.

BJ spent a lot of time at 1 and 2. This year the Braves 1/2 hitter have averaged about 630 PA the 7/8 have averaged about 550. Meaning that basically batting BJ higher whe it's clear he sucks or Simmons higher when it's clear he sucks, is costing us runs. Runs cost us wins, wins cost us shts at the playoffs.

Again, i agree it cost us wins but yall act like we're in 1st place if Jason is leadoff all year.

Probably have a decent cushion for the 2nd WC slot.

Didn't Hudson ask not to pitch against the braves earlier this year? Will be really awkward if he starts the play in game. Little less with it not being in Atlanta. Hopefully Hudson brought his bad luck in the playoffs with him to San Fran.

The Brewers are not playing well and they are kind of a funky, fluky team. Don't know what to expect from them down the stretch.

I expect them to not be in it at the end. Always thought they just got off to a hot start and wasn't that good of a team. I think that 4 game set with the Pirates at the end of the year determines the last WC spot.

No, you are the one that brought him up. I have never liked him either and I remember you saying that about him when he was first signed. Bj is not the issue with Fredi IMO. Fredi's lack of managing skills go way beyond Bj. Countless times he plays with no urgency at all when a game is on the line. He does it even in the playoffs and acts like it is April or May. I hate managers that don't play to win every night. Also his lineups are atrocious almost daily. It took him almost half a season to take Bj out of the leadoff roll. We were saying it from day one that Bj sucked and needed to be moved.

Then why did you love Bobby? That was how he managed. I didn't like BJ hitting high in the order either but he's not the only manager to have questionable lineup decisions. Probably won't be the last either. Our Hall of Fame manager did as well.

I see what Fredi tries to do with the line up. The fact is you can't afford to have Johnson, LaStella, Simmons, BJ follow each other at the bottom of the lineup anymore than you can have them at the top. By mixing them by having LaStella behind Jason and then Johnson after Justin you don't have a lineup where after Gattis its a hole. A lineup where you have Jason, Justin, Freddie and Gattis at the top would not be an instant fix. The only gripe I have with Fredi is Bonofacio needs to play everyday. The fact is the pieces for a solid lineup just aren't there. LaStella 2, Freddie 3, JUp 4, Jason's bat needs to be at 5, Gattis at 6, Johnson 7, Simmons at 8, would be ideal but we need a leadoff guy for it to happen which we don't have.

It isn't exactly rocket science...

There are currently 3 terrible hitters in the lineup (CJ, BJ, Simmons), and only Simmons plays good enough defense to make up for it. So get BJ out of the lineup completely, and limit CJ's ABs vs RHed pitching. Use Goss/Boni at 3B, and use Boni/Terdo in the OF (with Heyward sliding over to CF when Terdo plays). Don't be afraid to PH for Simmons late in the game, especially when the team is behind.

The terrible players don't need to be replaced by great players, they just need to be replaced by players that aren't quite as awful.

Then take the 5 average/good/great hitters (Heyward, JUp, Freeman, Gattis, TLS) and make sure they are in the top 5 spots in the lineup.

It really isn't that hard.

Yup.

Bonafacio has proven over his career that he is not an everyday player. Not a knock - neither is / was David Ross - Omar Infante.

I still dont get what the inordinate love for LaStella is all about. Nice player but --- very pedestrian skills and apparently figured out second time around the league.
Hope my assessment is wrong

He would be fine in the short run, Free up Heyward to be in the 5 where he really belongs as protection for Justin.
