Let's Talk About Media

Btw for those of you interested in good journalism emanating fom Russia, I have to say that the work by Fontanka in digging up the passport numbers of the alleged Skripal assassins and how the GRU was a bit sloppy in assigning consecutive passport numbers to a group of its agents is really outstanding work. A bit better than what is found at Russia Today. Looks like the vestiges of an independent press lives on in Russia.

Hopefully they won't be relocated to a gulag.

To me, the consecutive-passport-numbering thing fits of a piece with the whole silly show of portraying the Salisbury poisoners as tourists. It’s of a piece with the denial of chemical weapons attacks in Syria and the denial of election interference in the US. All that to say, it’s not a denial at all... it’s an obvious admission cynically cloaked as a denial, the point of which is a giant “**** you” to a certain constituency. They’re saying that money talks and daring the ostensible protectors of Western democracy and pluralism to say **** about it. The thing is, they’re right. They’re right, in their nihilistic fashion, about the decrepitude of the current order and the corruptability and cupidity of our elites and leaders. The glaring point here is that Russia, the Gulf States, China, Israel...whoever, can just buy the support they need to act with impunity. Whoever doesn’t like it can just ****ing kick rocks. We’re too busy collecting the spoils to be bothered.

cynical but true

the consecutive passport numbering revelation did have the effect of identifying an entire group of GRU operatives and I presume western intelligence is now taking a new look at their travels

We have a 35 year-old alleged attack where the accuser does not remember where or when it happened or who was in the room at the time, yet she wants to ruin a man's life over the alleged attack. Why didn't she come forward anytime in the previous 3+ decades and why was she so reluctant, until last night, to give her side of the story? Why was nothing said of the alleged incident during his meetings with Senator Feinstein? None of this makes any sense. So far, much like the allegation that Trump colluded with Russia to defeat HRC, this story is long on speculation but short on proof.

Laura Ingraham mocks the sexual assault survivors who confronted Jeff Flake...her guest suggests Flake staged the whole thing

This is particularly gross coming from the House that Roger built.

But very predictable. The saddest part of this whole thing is the way it's seen only through partisan eyes. My junior high school English teacher, a Trumper, is ranting on FB about Ford making the whole thing up.

CNN's Cuomo: Trump Looked Like He Was Thinking Racist Thoughts While Talking To Kanye West

Cuomo, taking an "educated guess," said Trump probably got a "warm serotonin flush of happy hormone" when he had racist ideas while talking to West, like the headlines he would get for talking with a popular African-American man. Cuomo flashed out headlines like 'Blacks Loves Trump' and 'He's Blacker Than Obama' as thoughts that he was certain was racing through Trump's head.
...
"My curiosity wasn't about what came out of Kanye's mouth. My wonder went to what is going on in Trump's head," Cuomo said.

"Let's take a look at him. Here is my educated guess, OK? Other than a warm serotonin flush of happy hormone, imaginary headlines, blacks loves Trump, he's blacker than Obama," Cuomo, imagining racist scenarios that he thinks Trump would think up, said.

CNN is in a strange place.

CNN Panel Mocks Kanye West as Trump’s ‘Token Negro,’ Don Lemon Laughs (Video)

A CNN panel hosted by anchor Don Lemon took turns lacing into Kanye West on Tuesday evening, joking that his embrace of President Donald Trump has caused him to be tokenized. Several referred to him using the term “negro.”

“He’s an attention whore, like the president. He’s all of a sudden now the model spokesperson. He’s the token negro of the Trump administration,” said CNN contributor Tara Setmeyer.
...
“Kanye West is what happens when negroes don’t read,” said Sellers. “And we have this now and now Donald Trump is going to use it and pervert and he’s going to have someone who can stand with him and take pictures.”
