Looking Ahead - The 2020 Offseason Thread

With no DH, that now leaves backup SS and 4th OF left to fill (assuming Pache is starting the year in AAA).

I really hope we aren't planning on Camargo being the backup SS. The remaining options in FA are not very good either, with Brad Miller and Jonathan Villar both being pretty awful defensively at SS. We'll likely have to find a defensive specialist somewhere, but there really isn't one available in FA that I see, so we may have to trade for one or wait till someone is released in ST.

For the 4th OFer, my preference remains Jay Bruce. Solid defender and smashes righties. Basically the LH version of Duvall. He can also play 1b when needed.

I also just noticed Marwin Gonzalez is available. He's basically a better version of Camargo. We probably won't do it, but I would sign him and send Camargo packing.

I think they signed a guy that they intend to backup SS and serve as the veteran lairdership for our young latino players. Although after signing Ozuna they may try to find someone better.

Its legit weird to have two different rule sets for each league, especially when the leagues play each other in regular season and for the championship.

It seems to give a decisive advantage in the championship to the team whose roster was constructed to have an additional bat for half the games.

Duvall to Marlins

Not sure why we couldn't top this offer, unless AA has other things in mind, or unless Duvall wanted guaranteed starting job.

Duvall will earn $2MM in 2021, while there’s a mutual option for $7MM or a $3MM buyout in 2022, per Mish.

We saving the money for marwin Gonzalez and melancon, hopefully

I still don't understand the OF situation on opening day. Are we assuming Pache is penciled in? If not, we still have a gaping hole.

Ozuna, Ender/Pache, Acuna.

Seems simple to me. If Ender shows anything in ST he will start opening day and if it's clear he's toast it will be Pache.

Any further additions to the position players will be for the bench and possibly 3B if they can swing a trade.

Ozuna LF, Ender CF and Acuña RF. Maybe they bring back Markakis a minor league contract.
The season is a long one and probably AA want to save money for a mid season trade.

The hope must be that Ender had issues in 2020 that are resolved for 2021. Expect to see that article from Bowman soon.

Why do people think Ender will be the starting CF? Pache is the better defender and it is unlikely he will be worse at the plate. Maybe he earns a demotion but I don’t see how he’s not our opening day CF unless he’s 0-for-ST. Ender will be the 4th OF like he ended last season
