It would be pretty radical, if not exactly unprecedented, for MLB to take a player who is a member of an organization and has already played for them and unilaterally declare him a free agent. When we got popped for signing Betemit too early, we were banned from signing in the country - we didn’t lose Betemit.

Of course, until we know what this is about, it’s all rank speculation.

Any chance it has to do with the "hand shake" agreement that we had with Maitan before J2? Good lord if we lose Kevin I'm gonna lost my ****. The GM thing I can live with. I haven't been a fan of their rebuilding methodology anyway. But if we lose actual prospects over this its gonna be ugly

My guess is if that were enforced, there would never be a clean international signing. That whole market is a cesspool and if there's fire to go along with the smoke here, it will only make the case of an international draft that much stronger.

I can go either way on Coppolella. My gripe with him has more to do with his inconsistency than anything else.
