Minor League Thread Part Deux

The last few innings. I was watching the game at work. He was using his splitter and slider to great effect early. I think when whoever that is said less, I think it was less that the first few innings when he did throw that splitter/slider combo more. I think his first 3 strikeouts were on those, but I could be wrong.
Well, and I don’t know because I wasn’t privy to watching it, but the post says that he got 15 whiffs in 3 innings by not using his splitter at all. He also talks about his profile has completely changed.

Translation is getting confused. He has indeed gone to his FB/SL, but he uses his split when he's ahead in the count. He HAS NOT totally abandoned it. There is no flex, just saying that he still uses it a good bit. Albeit not as reliant as he used to be. That is a good thing and NOT A FLEX:):)

Good lord 50 you're preaching to me. The Braves emphasis on challenging players is really a blessing and a curse. I like for players to cook a little longer at each level so that they can adjust and see exactly where their projections take them.

As for Carey, the kids got a good makeup. My times seeing him, I saw a tenacious approach and a serious demeanor about him. The story goes that he spent the summer playing in a Collegiate League where every player was significantly better than high school teams. He wanted that. Maybe South saw this too, but his set up is compact at 6'0 about 180ish or more. A little like Baldwin. He has a good eye and now he's picking up loft in his swing. The Braves lucked out on him really. He wasn't in many draft 'experts' "to draft" guides. I think he's gonna be a 'find' for the Braves. I was going to call him "nails," but that guy was a dbag. His style of play is like that somewhat.
Some guys can move fast, but most can't. Carey was getting ready for his senior prom a year ago and he's a northern kid (New Hampshire). Being a northern kid means less in the showcase era and Carey did well in a summer league that led up to the draft, but I like easing high school guys into the pro game. It would be different if he was the first-round pick or a college guy. I think you can aggressively promote pure "stuff" young pitchers as long as you don't burn option years, but hitting is different (at least to me).

assuming statcast is correct and not miss identifying his splitter as a slider (shouldn't because of the spin difference).. then Waldrep threw 5 splitters all day if my count was right..

I'm with you for sure on that.

Sure sounds like he’s more or less abandoned it to me. He’s a FB/SL guy now.

Could be. Either way, the adjustment is the big thing. I've always said, he can't get to his splitter because his command was azz. But according to Guarav he's made a subtle adjustment where he's not so over the top and his movements are more subtle. He’s not wasting excess energy on lateral movement, able to gather and deliver to the plate on a straight line.

Slider or Splitter, if the adjustments are real, he's more than a reliever.

I wasn't implying that he never used the splitter... I was saying he was getting whiffs because he wasn't using it like he had.. you are talking about less than 5% of his pitch mix was the splitter. I figured most would understand that he didn't completely abandon the pitch.
Again, you're arguing with yourself. I just made the observation he hasn't abandoned it. And he did have a strikeout on the splitter. We're getting our post count up for nothing. LMAO.

I agree that if the changes are legit, then he becomes a bit more interesting.. need to see what it does against better quality.. Still 2 walks in 6 innings..

And I wasn't arguing with anyone.. I simply said it is a weird flex to call someone out for saying a pitch is not great and then the pitcher has one of his better games by throwing that bad pitch less than 5% of the time... Like saying Soroka is good again because of 4 innings of solid pitching

Lmao. Not I gotta go back and see who said the pitch sucked 😂😂😂.

Man....if Perdomo hits for average power, I think he's going to be just fine. Albeit its the FCL, but I'm loving the contact rate. No power yet, but striking out once every 9 AB's is unheard of in the Braves system :)

Braves getting a highly rated system again just in time to load up the MLB team for a playoff run.
Yes - this is always the best part - get a good farm to follow and watch them become all stars in Texas for years to come while that 2 month rental is long gone to the Yankees or Dodgers ….

Good thing we’ve been smart enough to rocketship promote them so other GMs don’t even know they are any good yet

But wait... I was told that his splitter was not a great pitch by some know-it-all on this board.
I’ll gladly put my track record of evaluating pitchers against anyone.

Waldrep did not have good pitches, period. If he’s made improvements the data will show it. If he’s improved that’s excellent.

I don't know..mine is pretty good using the eyeball method. I haven't missed much. Lol...yall and your fancy stats...meh.

In all seriousness, the stats didn't really lie during his time in Atlanta. I surmise that his command was so awful, that splitter didn't matter much. In any case, if he can maintain that straight plane to the plate...he's gonna be a problem.
