Minor League Thread Part Deux

Yeah, White was a major leaguer long before he came to Atl.

AJSS ( assume that is who you mean) has been a top starter so far, but it's a bit of smoke and mirrors. He's not gonna maintain a HR rate below 1 and his BB rate is still a bit too high. But he's a solid pitcher regardless, even if he's closer to a mid rotation starter than the frontline starter his ERA would lead you to believe.

In Augusta, Owen Carey stays hot with another 2 hits on Sunday. Over his last 21 games, he is hitting .319/.398/.442 (.840 OPS).

Isaiah Drake also has been on a heater over the last 8 days with a .923 OPS. He was a 5th round pick out of North Atlanta HS in 2023.

I was wondering whether Carey was a prospect.

Looks pretty good in the OF and hit some balls sharply this weekend.

Drake looked like you should look but thought he had some weak fouls balls.

Gil does look the part of a 70 runner.

SS was last year and isn’t a top 3 starter in MLB. White is 30 years old and didn’t come from our minor leagues.
Mis print “ top three starter for us”

He came from AAA, and did Schwelly not as well?

Add AJSS then if you wanna be nitpicky about it

Sounds like something a woman would do though

Eli White came up in TEX org and had 3 years of MLB experience before he got here. That isn’t being nitpicky, that’s just being factual.

If Owen Carey continues to hit, he's gonna fly up some lists by the end of the year, imo. He's looking like he might be a true 5 tool prospect. Honestly, if he gets promoted soon, you might see him playing CF more often. But with Drake on the same team, there is no way he's gonna get the most reps in CF.

An 18 year old playing well in A-ball his first professional season is certainly a prospect.

The Royals prospect (catcher) Ramirez was also impressive.
I hope Ramirez makes it big. I took a chance and got two of his first bowman chrome cards in limited autographed prints. Him and the SS prospect Nimmala from Toronto... if those guys hit big I would love to cash those cards in for a big time profit.

Card market ain’t much these days
Huh? The card market has been pretty big the past several years. I literally just made a $300 profit on a Bobby Witt Jr card I bought for $70 a couple years ago.

Not really sure where you are getting your info... the trading card market in general is kind of in a straight up boom right now. Is this a Tapate "I don't really know much about the topic but I'm gonna post anyway" moment?

I'd never heard of him before and saw him play two games. Had no idea how old he was. He made an impression.
I think I mentioned him towards the beginning of the year. He was hitting the ball well from day one... him and Hartman (who I actually thought was going to be the better of the two HS OF signs) but Hartman has cooled off... Carey keeps hitting.

Last I looked (my kids are into it) only a few were bringing much, and the ones I had that were legit in my childhood are worth less than when I got them .

So not sure what to take from that other than….

No one is talking about cards from your childhood... always was garbage and always will be.

Mays and Aaron and Eddie Matthews…. Garbage ?
Stargell MVP?
Was mainly thinking of the junk wax era in the 70s 80s and 90s… but yeah even the older stuff generally just holds its value unless it’s really unique. The hobby is all about young stars and controlled print numbers now. You basically have a short window to buy a few short print autos of a real young guy that you think could make a big jump. He turns into like a top 50 prospect and you have a huge value increase… another if he makes the bigs and has success. That’s typically when you want to sell, though… after one of those milestones. Then you basically hold value or gradually decrease depending on the career trajectory. It’s not an investment… it’s straight up gambling and not very good odds at that. I only dabble in collecting but it’s because I enjoy it not because I’m hoping to get rich.

But either way, the card market is factually in a boom right now so I don’t know what to tell you. It doesn’t take much googling to figure that out.
