Minor League Thread Part Deux

DSL Braves really wasted a couple of solid pitching performances today from RHPs Raudy Reyes and Marcos Pol. Reyes went 4, giving up one hit, walking two and striking out 6. Pol followed up by giving up 1 hit and 1 walk (along with one hit-batsman) and 5 strikeouts in 3 IP. Braves blew three-run leads in both the bottom of the 9th and 10th to lose 8-7 in 10.

SS Angel Carmona who was one of the Braves' most prominent signees last January has been playing every day after not playing earlier in the season (must have been an injury). Not hitting for much of an average (.205), but four of his eight hits have gone for extra bases and he's walked six times in 46 PAs while striking out 10 times.

Between Martinez, Cesa, Espinal, and Tornes, we seem to have had more hitters performing well in the DSL than any other season in recent history.

Douglas Glod remains hot in Augusta. In 112 PAs since June 6, he's hitting .284/.393/.463 and an .856 OPS. The K's are still a problem, but he is worth keeping an eye on.

Eric Hartman is also red hot, hitting .295/.392/.500 (.892 OPS) over his last 52 PAs. I honestly thought he deserved a promotion over Drake. I'm really starting to this kid is legit. He's hitting better than most prep drafted players from the 2024 class, and he's younger than most, having just turned 19 on June 16.

Oh heck yeah.

I was going over some performances from the new guys in the system, and I missed where we signed Cooper McMurray as a UDFA.

I'm not a big Auburn fan, but I recall seeing him a few times vs the Vols and I always came away impressed. I recall thinking he reminded me a good bit of Matt Olson. And going over his college numbers, he had a very good career. Solid power and great on base skills. I can't believe he wasn't drafted by anyone, at least as your typical below slot college senior signing.

So far, he has put those great on base skills to work with 5 walks in only 12 PAs at Rome. It's doubtful he becomes anything more than organizational filler, I was just surprised he went undrafted.

Okay Deester! Give us the lowdown on Kendy Richard… looks like he was dominant in his first Augusta start as a 20 year old and has been solid since he signed

Hmm...I thought I talked about him a little. I saw him only in a small sample. To that end I was not overwhelmed by his stuff. Even as I say that he was more advanced than the hitters. Set them up well...slider was very good. I'm never a fan of low velocity pitchers fooling hitters at the lower levels with a low velocity FB. That said...he's got a better idea of pitching above the same age peers as he repeated DSL.

I am cautiously optimistic he could gain more on his FB. Body wise though he reminds me of Rayven Antonio...little lighter but thick. If he can get to driving the ball consistently, I'd be more optimistic. He is a case where his secondaries can out shine his FB. It could break either way obviously, but there is some runway.

You may have talked about him. Sorry if I missed it… I just saw the line and he wasn’t one I remembered.
