Minor League Thread Part Deux

For a starting caliber player, that is true.

But a utility/bench player is someone like Jorge Mateo. That is the likely floor for Lodise, assuming he remains injury free.

I think Mateo's career is a good expectation for Lodise. My opinion on him hasnt changed since he was drafted but FG had Mateo as 35 hit tool with potential for 40. Lodise is 20/30. So he may be a significantly worse than a career .222 hitter. A .222 hitter with 80 grade speed too.

We have no clue what his ceiling and floor is right now.

It’s way too early

I agree to an extent but he is 22. Thats not too early. I think ceiling, floor, and contention windows are stupid concepts to begin with. I am a firm believer that many players success depends on who is developing them. The right mechanical adjustment can turn a bum into an all star. I wonder what a guy like Grant Holmes career would have looked like if he was drafted by the Braves. I doubt Smoltz is a HoF Pitcher if he wasnt traded by Detroit. Etc.

Again, that's the floor. Not ceiling. And Lodise has a good bit more power than Mateo ever really showed as a prospect.

You can tell me what you think his floor is but you cant tell me what I think his floor is. I am not the only one here who thinks his floor is as a AAAA player. He still has to get significantly better to reach that floor and he is already 22. He would have probably been picked anywhere from 25-40 if he was the player you people claim he is. A college SS with a floor of a solid bench player and the upside of a good regular does not last until pick 60. If I am wrong I will own it. God knows I was wrong about Langeliers. All I can do is own it. Try to understand where I went wrong and learn from it. With recent advancements in technology I am not as against college pitching as I used to be. And if I learned one thing its not to doubt the Braves scouts when it comes to catchers.

And for what its worth FG had Matero and Lodise both as 55 Raw power and 45 Game power. Imo Mateo's speed made him a better prospect then than Lodise is now.
