Minor League Thread

That 23 draft could be a special one. Waldrep, Kuehler, Hackenberg, Cebellos, Braun, Bauumann plus Drake who they went overslot for has intriguing tools.

The 23 draft is exactly what I like to see in a draft. We bet on a lot of things that are hard to teach and took kids with enormous ceilings.

Early returns look good, but as eager as we all are, it's hard to put too much stock in late-season results. I doubt Waldrep makes his big league debut this year, but recently they've shown very little compunction about aggressively promoting guys.

Smith-Shawver exited midway through the first inning today. Threw 31 pitches, only 12 for strikes. Walked three and struck out two. Gave up one hit. Walked in a run for the only run scored that inning. Had been on the 7-day IL with shoulder issue. Hopefully this is just a precaution.

I saw Grissom was pulled last night after one at bat and wasn’t in the game today. Is he hurt or did he get called up for roster expansion?

He was listed as available on Gameday for Gwinnett today. I don't know why he isn't with the Braves instead of Luke Williams, but there must be reasons.

I agree, his value isnt really going to go up from here and theres only potential to lose his prospect shine if he struggles. I would only really want to trade him for a SP with atleast 2+ years of service time left or a top end reliever but I think that would take a good bit more than Grissom. I cant see a whole lot of SP or even high end relievers who I trust to maintain their current level of performance. Feels like a minefield.

Put him in a package for Cease? But we do have alot of SP depth next year. Fried/Soroka/Wright/Elder/Strider/Morton if he doesnt retire/then guys like Vines/AJSS/Chirinos/Shuster and Dodd on the lower end. Waldrep may be a fast riser too. AA might move some of that depth for i dont even know.

I did a little crosswalk and compared Grissom with Justyn-Henry Malloy, who we traded for Jimenez. Both Grissom and Malloy have eaten up AAA this year, but questions arise as to whether they can be passable defensive players at the major league level. Malloy is a DH in AAA at age 23 and that, to me, says quite a bit.

Malloy is a year older and was a college player, so there is that to consider, but unless Grissom shows out defensively, I have to wonder what his value is. Malloy got us Jimenez. I don't know if Grissom gets the Braves that much more on his own.

Don't take my comments as a "Gee Whiz, we should never traded Malloy." I was just making a comparison between these two guys and what I see as similar challenges in determining their value.

I feel like Grissom played a fine second base

Grissom situation is pretty tough for us/AA. I mean, if Nicky Lopez is the UTIL guy, with Arcia at SS. Not really sure what role you have for Grissom going forward. I agree we should cash in on him but not even sure what we could try to get him for. I guess that's up for AA to decide. My dream is AA trades for Luis Robert this winter in an absolute monster package, and just makes this lineup thanos.
