Sounds like it will take around 3 million to sign McKenzielooks like Essenburg kid signed for about 700K over slot... Team still has 4 million remaining to sign 4 more guys.. They have to have something up their selves, because there is no way it is going to take 4 mill to get those last 4 guys.
I read that too.Sounds like it will take around 3 million to sign McKenzie
that seems high. I knew he would be over slot, but he wasn't ranked higher than 45ish on any of the prospect rankings I think. I would think 1.5 would be enough.Sounds like it will take around 3 million to sign McKenzie
I’m just telling you what some of the rumors have beenthat seems high. I knew he would be over slot, but he wasn't ranked higher than 45ish on any of the prospect rankings I think. I would think 1.5 would be enough.

Just speculation… but because they knew McKenzie would likely slip due to potential signability issues. When they saw how the draft was shaping up and he was still available they likely jumped on it with how much money they knew they still had. Several teams had Tate with a first round grade and they really wanted him. He would not have been available later.yep it took 3 to get him.. seems weird to me that you spend more on the 4th rounder than you do on any other round and more than your 1st and 3rd rounder combined.
Is there anywhere else that views those two as first round talents though? I haven’t seen a single draft ranking with either of them close to that range.I get that Matt Powers and Gaurav are both Braves system analysts/bloggers but they have a strong track record of good analysis and commentary. They were both hoping the Braves would somehow get McKenzie and Essenburg before the draft. It is their view that the Braves got 4 first round talents in this draft.
McKenzie certainly was considered a first or second round talent… but his commitment to LSU scared teams off. Essenburg was a late riser but to those guys’ credit… they considered him at least a first day talent before the draft even happened. Is there anywhere else that views those two as first round talents though?
