Wonder when most of these guys will start their seasons
Florida Complex League season ends next week, so the high school guys probably will just go to the Florida complex and work with the instructional staff. I can't figure out why the season is so short. First, they move the draft to the second week of July and then they truncate the rookie league season.

So the high school guys won't get much work in this year in games much. I'm guessing Lodise and the college guys get to playing in the next week or 2

Lodise can play shortstop and has ambush pull power; he’s a lower-variance utilityman. Miller went to Cape Cod after the college season to try to elevate his stock and it looks like it worked. He’s a “maybe” shortstop who struggled on defense during the SoCon tournament and Regionals, but he has great hand-eye coordination and quick wrists in the batter’s box. His swing style is very conservative and could stand to be more athletic,
No one considers Lodise a likely utility man

The Dick Howser trophy is a big deal that Lodise won this year. Here's a list of a few of the past winners. And there's a lot more good ones. This is a big get bc his numbers are eye popping. My favorite pick of the draft.

Skenes
Rutschman
Kris Bryant
Todd Helton
Brady Singer
Benintendi
Rendon
David Price
Strasburg
Teixiera

Weren't most those guys 1st rounders though?

Does it matter? He still won the award for his performance.
Just seems odd that past winners seem to all be 1st rounders. There's been some flops too - Brendan McKay, Seth beer, and Kevin kopps. Ivan Melendez seems to on way to flipping. Hopefully our guy is a good example in 2 years

McKenzie certainly was considered a first or second round talent… but his commitment to LSU scared teams off. Essenburg was a late riser but to those guys’ credit… they considered him at least a first day talent before the draft even happened.
At the end of the day it only takes one team to fall in love with a player. They got talent, but yes...some weren't viewed as highly as the Braves had them but that's the science of why the Braves do things the way they do. 2 teams were in on The #1 pick in the latter part of round one. A lot of people like this draft. A lot of people are just OK with it. I'm not as big a fan of it as Huddy and ZB...but I'll wait until I see them to guess how they play out.

I'm just glad to see offense being made a priority. SS is the most athletic position on the field so if you can play there then you can play anywhere pretty much. Sure some of these guys will flame out but I like the upside.

For sure... it may end up being a terrible draft... that's the thing about the MLB draft... you just can't know until 3 or 4 years, but I loved the approach and I love the raw upside of the big 4. I also like the under the radar potential of Miller, Dixon Williams, and some of the relief ish looking prospects. I hope we look back on this draft as a good one.

Oh I see the cute little thing you did... you just copy and pasted the Fangraphs analysis to make it sound like your own?

Except the fangraphs author who wrote the piece apparently.

if you want to be thrilled the Braves signed a bunch of grossly underslot middle infielders with their first three picks then don't mind me. I want you to have that inner joy if you can manage it.

I'm a little confused why you think I was trying to pass it off as my own since nearly everyone here reads fangraphs. but I suppose I should have remembered the quotation marks.

A player with above average power who is also a very good defender at SS does not profile as a likely utility player. That is insane that I have to write that.

Who knows if he works out. But labeling him as a likely utility player is extremely lazy analysis.

Swanson is exactly that sort of player. He has swing and miss issues, he doesn't get on base particularly well, and he doesn't hit for average. But what he does do is play defense very well and hit for power.

Zach Neto is the player Lodise gets compared to the most for what it's worth.

Take it up with the best prospect guy in the business per Enscheff.

He's a college SS that was something like the 21st SS drafted (and behind several other college SS) who signed well underslot in the second round.

The upside might not be quite what you think.

1. This was a deep SS class.

2. He has swing and miss issues and he's guy that wasn't projected to be a day 1 pick coming into this season.

The point remains, if you believe he has above average power and the defense is good at SS, that isn't a likely utility player.

Let's hope so because he was taken very deep from the list of SS prospects.
