MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

Like since 2010 when Stras entered league:

3.11 ERA (13th in MLB)

2.80 FIP (4th in MLB)

2.76 xFIP (1st in MLB)

Those stats or are you looking for others?

He's been a different pitcher after his injuries and you know it. Nothing about his stats the last year and a half come anywhere close to what he was supposed to be, and again... you know it.

The last year and a half, his numbers are:

3.24 ERA
3.04 FIP
2.90 xFIP

Do you want to carry on looking stupid and claiming he's a 2 or a 3 type pitcher or quit now?

If you want to carry on, go ahead and find me 30-60 better starters.

Lol that's funny, a player saying he will resign if traded....lets believe that! How many times has that happened? Mike Bordick.....anyone else? Not to mention most of the "insiders" saying it was a PR move and Lester is actually extremely bitter towards the front office about the low ball offers.

Anyway, yes, lets do this bet. Avatar bet or what?

Kenny Lofton says hello.

Lol... that's not a very equal bet when you have 29 teams that can sign him and for me to win, I only have 1 team he can sign with. It's happened more than Bordick... but I can't remember specifics now. I might be wrong, but still don't think its a bad deal for a team who has as much money as the Sox. If you can afford him and your OF is terrible, Ces is a known quantity and a huge upgrade. Lester is finally good this year after a stretch of mediocre years... I do not consider him a can't miss ace.

So you don't "want to bet anything he resigns"?

Weird....

Problem is the hype had him as the best pitcher in a generation and he isn't even the best pitcher in his division or own team for that matter.

He's definitely not an ace... and my point is, he was hyped to be way better than he is... same with Harper... known quantities > prospects... even the most hyped prospects don't work out like they are supposed to all the time.

Its called rhetoric... if you want to propose something, we can talk about it... but I was discussing a possibility that seems to be very possible with those familiar with the situation... wasn't sure if you had thought that possibility through, that's all. If Boston, did in fact, resign Lester... it's a fantastic deal.

Wow indeed.

I think the Lester acquisition is brilliant for Oakland -- yeah, they are trading a useful piece in Cespedes, but they are in no way mortgaging the future (like they did in the Samardzija trade, which was just an example of Billy Beane paying more as a result of getting way out ahead of the market, which he has done many times before [usually well in his favor]). I feel like Boston could, and should, have gotten more for Lester in terms of prospects. But they aren't really a team that has the time or the inclination to rebuild, and it's possible that they resign Lester this offseason anyways.

Before we declare Billy Beane the person who invented baseball, keep in mind he just traded a fungible pitcher (Milone) for someone he waived earlier this season (Fuld). Surprised the Twins got that much for Fuld.

Yeah, pretty strange. I think he went to trade Millone bc he has to and got no interest.
