MLB Trade Deadline Discussion

I wonder if it was the same guy who was screaming at Harold Reynolds last night? I'm no great Harold Reynolds fan (although I can't figure out why some hate him so much), but this guy was going off on Harold when Harold was basically right.

I think he was referring to Chris Russo, who I likewise find to be annoying as hell.

Fuld is a decent 4th OF. I thought the Braves might be in on him as a replacement for Schafer, but Milone is a nice return for a 4th OF. I doubt we could have matched that given the composition of our team.

Looks like they got him to play some center with Gentry out.

So you don't think CGs are important for aces? He is not in the same breath as Price, Kershaw and those boys. True aces work deep in to games often. Stras is an ace the same way Melo is a great player - in expectations and reputation over actual production.

Denorfia is getting moved today from #Padres. #Royals and #Braves are the leaders

I hope we get Denorfia. I know he's having a down year but I'd still rather see him in the lineup tonight over the Doumit/Schafer trainwreck. Being in San Diego he could easily make the game tonight.

I would say the stats I posted are far more important than how many CGs someone has.

The Nats would win more games if Stras could go deeper with more frequency. But he doesn't. There are very few true aces in the game and he ain't one of them.

But there isn't really any disputing that Strasburg has ace-caliber stuff and could easily elevate to a Top 5 pitcher in the game with a few minor improvements. So I guess I miss the point.

Lackey to STL.

Sox close to a deal with Cardinals for Lackey, according to multiple sources

@mlbbowman: Schafer certainly didn't help himself getting picked off second last night. The #Braves are shopping for backup OFs

Of similar pitchers this year, Strasburg goes deep in to games less frequently than MANY of them. To be a legit ace, you have to go deep in to games more often than he does. That's what separates guys like Wainwright, Price, Kershaw, Cueto, from guys like Greinke and Strasburg. Sure the pretty K and ERA numbers are nice, but dominant pitchers go deep in to games. Plain and simple. Stras doesn't.

I don't disagree at all. He's a number 1, but not an ace (there's a difference).
Aces are horses that work deep a lot. Stras runs in to trouble or high pitch counts and gets taken out more often than the true aces do.
