That would be a pretty crazy price for Lucroy.
Right. You don't do it for that price, but he won't cost that much.
That would be a pretty crazy price for Lucroy.
Well, I agree but what do you think they asked Texas for? Brinson and Luis Ortiz?
On the one hand we argue that Teheran should be traded for nothing less than a top 10 prospect, a top 50 and then another guy or two.
I certainly expect the Brewers to want A LOT for Lucroy. Newcomb is a top 30 guy and Sims and Soroka are outside the top 100. The one of the three who looks most likely not to bust is Soroka. You're getting Newcomb on faith.
They can trade him in the offseason, but 1.5 years of a player is far more attractive than 1 year. His value will absolute be lower after the season is over.
I agree about not building for 2017, but I don't see any way Bregman is available. It would take quite a bit more than Teheran to get that done.
Not to us.
I understand where you're coming from but I just can't buy it.
You have to ask yourself what a Lucroy trade would cost? Let's say Lucroy for Newcomb, Sims and Soroka. I can't see why the Brewers would do it for less than that considering all the teams they have sniffing around.
Now, ask yourself what it would take to get Myers? It's GOT to be more than what you give up for LuCroy. Let's say the Braves don't get stupid and decide that one of Albies or Swanson is available. Then you are likely looking at Fried, Allard and Toussaint.
So, to get those two guys you have to GUT your pitching depth. That's 6 of your top 12 players. I just can't see how that in any way fits the whole purpose of the rebuild.
Now, I admit that I am assuming that the Pads and the Brewers don't just give those guys to the Braves for a bag of magic beans. But, I think I am pretty safe in assuming that.
I wouldn't trade Newcombe or Sorka strait up for Lucroy. I probably would trade Sims...but that would be strait up.
Lucroy is good. But it's still 1.5 years of a 30 y/o catcher for a team that is probably should be looking at 2018 and beyond.
Colorado Gets: Teheran and Folty
Braves get: SS Brendan Rodgers, OF David Dahl, C Dom Nunez
Reasoning: Colorado has an offense that can compete next year, especially if they keep Cargo. They look like they are focusing on power arms and Teheran and Folty give them 2/5 of a rotation. The Braves get a future 3B in Rodgers, a future OF in Dahl and a potential future catcher in Nunez.
We can't even get Benintendi or Bregman (seemingly) for Julio, and you somehow think we are going to get Rodgers and Dahl for a deal centered around him? Not to mention Julio is a horrible fit in Colorado (his career ERA there is 5.4). That deal has no chance of happening.
That's the reason it is Teheran and Folty. Folty fits the power pitching mold they have gone to. Julio does give up the HR BUT the Rocks have gone away from ground ball guys and are looking for strike-out power guys. While Teheran isn't exactly that, he's not the worst guy they could get.
Having said that, I would take any of these trades taken individually and all if possible.
Julio might get us Dahl if we were lucky (and even that is unlikely), Folty isn't worth anywhere close to either. Julio wouldn't get us Rodgers by himself, he has around the same value as Benintendi and Bregman. You do realize Rodgers was the #12 prospect on BA's midseason update, and Dahl was #16?
We aren't getting two top 30 hitting prospects for Julio and Folty, much less 2 top 15ish. And of course you would take that trade, we win it going away.
I also think the Rocks will look at next year as THEIR year to win (at least they should)
