NBA Thread

Kobe won a couple with Pau Gasol as the 2nd best player on the team. Dallas won one with Jason Terry as it's second best player. Why can't KD?

Gasol was at his peak and a top 5 player when they won it all, obviously Kobe was still a top 2 player then.

KD is supposed to win a title with Ibaka as his 2nd best player, really, REALLY, come on now.

Dallas is a dumb comparison, that will never happen again.

Tyson Chandler was the Mavericks second best player. He played elite elite defense then. Then you could argue that Kidd was their third best player.

The regular season in baseball is similar to basketball in that it makes no difference at all as long as you are in the playoffs.

The thought that if RW was healthy, they easily beat the Spurs or the Grizz is dumb. BUt, its just another example of you being a huge homer.

Besides, how many shoot first point guards have won NBA titles?

Spurs, not sure.

All the games vs Memphis were close, they pretty much double/tripled team KD at will.

Pretty sure Russ would of been the difference in those close games and they win that series in at worst 5-6 games.

First off, many shoot first point guards have been as good as RW. Check out similiarity scores. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/westbru01.html

Secondly, Im guessing that you are claiming the Thunder are an all-time great regular season team based on their simple rating that accounts for margin of victory (bc you certainly aren't going off win totals)

The team with the highest srs rating has won the NBA title 34 times in 67 chances or 51%.

The last time the best regular season team won a championship was the 2007/08 Celtics.

Who is a shoot first PG on that list in your opinion?

The Thunder had one of the highest point differentials of all time. The others who were above that all won NBA titles. I just can't believe you are discounting how great they were last year. KD/RW sat TWENTY fourth quarters last year. Thats right...TWENTY! They destroyed teams last year and it wasn't even close. They would have cruised to the NBA finals. Maybe they lose to Miami but it would have been a closer match than in 2012 (which was closer than the 4-1 would indicate).

Iverson, Payton, Porter at the very least. Though, that doesn't mean they are as selfish with shot attempts that Russ is bc I doubt there are many point guards that take that many shots.

Gasol is a 4-time all star. NEver been all NBA. Had a top 10 PER in all of 2 seasons (8, 9)....but top 5 player. lulz.

Terry Porter was not even anything close to resembling a shoot first PG.

Payton is an interesting comp even though their games are completely different.

Iverson was just too small. Small guys just don't win in the NBA.

I wouldnt say Russ is a shoot-first PG but he's not a natural PG like a CP3/Rondo either.

His passing has gotten much better.

RW is a different player now then what he was. You guys are going to be shocked at the player you see. Sure, he will have his moments where he has a happy trigger finger but for the most part he is looking to make his teammates better.

I doubt you even watched Terry Porter play. He was a 3 point shooting point guard as opposed to someone that distributed the ball.

I watched towards the middle to end of his career. So you are saying that Porter was a shoot first PG like RW/Iverson/Marbury?

Giles, does Mia win a title without Wade the last 2 years?

And make 3 straight, thats the argument you're making here.

You need that 2nd option.

Russ when he first entered the league was a shooting guard who happened to play at the point. He has evolved into a point guard who can score the ball. Westbrook has improved greatly and he continues to get better as a player overall.
