Only way they can is with a sign and trade, otherwise they'd have to clear their salaries to give Melo the 4 year max. Even if it is a sign and trade, I'm assuming the Knicks would want Butler back in the deal.

I'm not sure i'd give up Butler++ for Melo.

They need him to guard the top perimeter guys.

Melo when he's motivated can play defense but he needs to save his energy to carry the offense.

The Bulls are the perfect spot for Melo, best defensive team in the league....top 3 coach in the league and they don't have a scorer. Why wouldn't they want Melo?

And if they have to give up the farm to get Anthony they don't improve as a team. And that best defensive team in the league drops off a bit with Carmelo.

Chicago is also reportedly interested in Aaron Afflalo. He is a good player and in the right situation could really thrive.

And you woke up?

Two mid-1sts and a Euro prospect is too much, assuming we take Boozer and Dunleavy? Then let them amnesty Boozer and still pay him, trade Butler, and trade Gibson. Knicks don't have to play ball here. Bulls can't offer him near the max.

New York doesn't have to play ball with anyone. But it would benefit them to trade him away and at least get something back in return.

In other news Kevin Love may be out of Minnesota. Take it for what it's worth, but the latest rumor is Love to San Antonio for Green, Splitter, Mills, and a first.

Sixers really got screwed with this whole Embiid thing. I personally don't want him at 3, I'd rather gamble on Exum. I have a feeling they're going to do something a little crazy. My gut is telling me they're going to end up with Exum, Smart, and a shooter at 10 while trading MCW. Don't really want to trade MCW, but I'm a huge fan of Smart and Exum's stock is shooting up. Some people seem to believe Exum would have no problem playing the 2.

Agreed...and it would benefit the Bulls to trade a couple of picks rather than dismantle their supporting cast. If I'm the Knicks, I ask for everything I can get until the Bulls or Rockets demonstrate they have other outlets to clear enough cap space (I don't buy the Mavs as a legitimate destination).

And what if Melo wants to take less than max like he has hinted at?

I'd call his bluff...he's already leaving a potential $30M (?) if he leaves NY...not sure how much more he wants to leave on the table.

I agree that he shouldn't be a "super max" player, but in today's NBA, I don't see how he gets less.

Bulls give us some young assets, they get Melo and don't have to pay Boozer, Melo gets close to the max he can earn and plays for a contender. Win-win-win.

All I know is Melo has said that his primary focus is not getting hte most money. Sure, I'll believe it when we see it but for now I don't think signing for the max is a huge roadblock for these teams.

Just another reason you can't compare him and Jordan. Jordan didn't need to jump around the league to win titles. Same with Kobe.

Well again...he hasn't gone anywhere yet and its not his fault that he was so good early on that the team couldn't accumulate great players with high draft picks.

That being said, Lebron deserves a hit if he leaves Miami. That is his franchise now. Leaving Cleveland made sense. Now he needs to make this work.

Meh. I think he'll stay. Wade declined quickly and Bosh is a good player, but not more. He'll get criticized no matter what he does, so it doesn't really matter. No one would win a championship with the squad that was around LeBron this past year. Even if you consider Bosh and Wade really good players still (they're not), there were zero decent role players around them. Their whole bench was terrible and Allen is nothing except a guy that can hit an occasional 3 any more. Chalmers is as useless as players in the NBA get.
