New Manager Discussion

Why would McGuirk insist on that?

McGuirk has no ties to Gibbons. AA does. That doesn’t make sense.

Maybe the real story is that someone wanted a former manager to babysit Lehman (perhaps Gibbons was suggested and was willing and Weiss was not) and Lehman wasn't willing to accept that.

I think people get fixated on candidates sometimes and make them more important than they really are.

After all, who the hell is Lehman and what has he done, to make such a fuss over?

Weiss is uninspiring and sad for sure. But Lehman is nobody.

My theory with Lehman is that we waited to make contact until the Series was over and were then told he wasn't interested. We had Weiss on the shelf as the backup option. It's the simplest explanation.

I don't believe for a second that AA was overruled. The Braves aren't a dysfunctional organization.

I think this is close to accurate, but I'd be willing to bet there were expectations of continuity placed on Lehman that he wasn't willing to accept.

Either way, we get to watch another dinosaur bumble through strategy for a few more years. Should be awesome to watch WW play checkers against competent managers.

As an aside, I was watching the replay of the grand slam Acuna hit in the 2018 NLDS and when it cut to the Dodgers dugout, there was Lehmann right behind Roberts. That was the year he started as game plan coach for them. Didn't realize he'd been in the dugout that long. So maybe he is waiting it out for Roberts to retire.

Also, do we have a game planning coordinator?

They don’t have a position titled that but they have Will Siskel and Robert Sanders as Major League Operation Coordinators that deals with game planning and strategy among other things. I read an article about Siskel a while back I’ll see if I can find it

I mean. Lehmann has been under Roberts as long as Weiss was under Snit. It isn't surprising he'd feel comfortable there. Like Weiss said in his presser, he knows the culture already has relationships built with players. Lehmann is the same over there.

If you're Lehmann youre already on the most successful team now, if you know Doc will retire in a few years and you're the manager in waiting, then why go across the country to another job now?

He's still young and has plenty of years ahead of him.

Could simply be Lehmann was our first choice and we got turned down and Weiss was choice 2.

Is there any indication that Roberts is retiring any time soon? He’s only 53. Managers don’t usually retire until their mid-60’s or later if they’re any good.
