Over paying RPs is usually a bad idea
true that.. but not having a good BP can allow you to watch the Muts sweep you in September at home and completely miss the playoffs when you were supposed to be WS champs..

I was harping all second half about our AAAA (I'm being generous) bullpen and how a bad bullpen can sap the life out of a team, but I think there is a difference between the horrid bullpen we had during the second half and overpaying for a guy like O'Day. I like the moves we've made thus far in the off-season to strengthen the pen, but I think O'Day wouldn't come close to putting us in a position to contend so why make the investment.

The #Braves have shown some interest in catcher Tyler Flowers, who was non-tendered by the White Sox.

I'd be very happy with this.

More importantly, though, the Rays seem to be banking on one of this decade’s central catcher-defense discoveries: Throwing just doesn’t matter that much, relative to other aspects of the position that Conger can handle. Baseball Prospectus recently revamped its fielding stats for catchers to account for the pitchers they work with and the runners they face. Research suggests that pitchers are far more responsible for base-stealing behavior than their battery mates, so in theory, the spread in catcher throwing runs should be small. That’s exactly what BP’s numbers reveal: The range between the best- and worst-throwing catcher in 2015 was only 6.3 runs, slightly smaller than the range in blocking runs (6.9), and a fraction of the range in framing runs (44.2).
Pitch framing is a big, big deal.
I would definitely be on board bringing in Flowers
Can't wait for Coppy to tell Fredi to just "look at the flowers."
I continue to expect CB to get traded . . . and for a very paltry return. Flowers is now best FA option for us. Would be nice to have a good pitch framer, for once.
