Next Move?

I have said this.. I see no reason to invest in O'day.. he isn't going to help this team and is another indicator that the team is a bit disjointed when it comes to the rebuild... that being said, I have no issue if we drive the price up on the Gnats so it hurts them in the long run. O'day will not fix that mess over there..and spending 9-10 million for a RP would be nice to see.. Maybe Paps will choke out O'day because he makes more than him.

Wouldnt say Was is a mess.

Not as good without Zimmerman but Scherzer, Stras, Gio, Ross, Roark/FA/someone else is a pretty solid rotation.

They do need to fix their pen though. Not sure where Zobrist would play, infield seems crowded with Zim, Rendon, Turner, Escobar (rumors he may get dealt tho)

The mess is the bull pen. Their rotation is still top of league type rotation as a whole. Assuming Gio and Stras pitch well. Stras is in a contract year.. so he may try to amp it up..

yes, I think Yunell is going to be dealt..

Hearing O'Day sweepstakes down to #Orioles #Nationals #Braves. Nearing finish line. Decision could come b4 winter meetings. Def by end of WM

Interesting

Mind boggling use of money. A team that will struggle to win 70 games giving a 4/30+ contract to a reliever is just....wow.

Adding a BP arm is something a team does when it needs the final piece of the puzzle. It is not something a team does during a rebuild while they will have very few leads to protect. This would be nothing short of a baffling, idiotic use of available cash.

The lack of needing an elite closer on a bad team is EXACTLY why Kimbrel was deemed expendable. I am starting to have less and less confidence in this front office. Now, all of a sudden, they need to pay a premium price for a premium BP arm?

Maybe our sales pitch goes something along the lines of "Lisaten, we will give you the money. On top of that, we don't expect to be in a winning situation too often, so you don't have to worry about pitching too much and putting stress on your arm. That may add another 2 or 3 years to your career!"

It's just so mind-numbingly stupid for a terrible team to pay a BP arm premium salary when the organization has an abundance of pitching prospects...most of which will likely end up in the BP!

I guess I can't even fully express how disappointing this news is. It shows a complete and utter lack of understanding about the current situation the organization is in (full of pitching talent, basically zero offensive talent).

And after Coppy has JUST said how hard it is to convert pitching assets into hitting assets...he wants to pay top dollar for more pitching? Seriously?

Seriously, because of every reason just mentioned here, no way Braves investing that heavily on set-up man. Too early in winter to get into bidding war for something they easily might not need.

I wonder who Darren's agency is. Sometimes you bid when you can drive up the price of a rival team as well as get brownie points with the agency for getting them more money. The 2 for 0 move that can really work out for you.

Garin Cecchini was DFA's by the Red Sox to make room for David Price. Obviously has not worked out so far but I'd love to take a shot on him to see if he can earn a few AB's at 3B

Saw that and agree. A LH hitter who can Play 3b and LF would fit perfectly. Could also learn 1B in a pinch.

I agree in grabbing Flowers. In fact, I brought it up yesterday the second he became a FA.

No point in trading CB just to be rid of him though. He can easily stay down in AAA and work on defense.

I don't know a thing about how to frame pitches or block balls, but it seems like those are skills that can be learned. A 1.8s pop time and 86 MPH laser to 2B can't be taught.

Ask the White Sox how giving that kid my job worked out for them.

I guess the bone head moves of the front office are now affecting the way fans think.

I remember being kind of pissed when the Red Sox drafted Cecchini because he was injured his senior year in high school but maintained a very high asking price to forego college. Of course, the deep-pocket Red Sox could draft him in the 4th round and meet his salary demands while the Braves were putting a cap on their budget for signing draftees.

Looks like Cecchini hit a wall at AAA, because he hasn't hit at all for past two seasons. Don't know if I'd want him or not. He is playing some OF now, which makes him someone who could project as a utility guy, but he has to find his bat again for anything good to happen for him.

Haha care to explain yourself? What's the problem with targeting former top prospects if they can be had on minor league deals and see how they perform in ST? That's a pretty bone head comment.

I just think it's sad that this is what the Braves have become.

Before you freak out even further, we don't even know what offer he has from the Braves (if any). O'Days family lives near Atlanta. The interest level here is most likely mutual, much like the Lester situation. But if he comes to Atlanta, it will most certainly be at a steep discount.

Even the best franchises have to rebuild. We have been spoiled. The team will be fine in the long run.

It's old, old news, but the decision to acquire Teixeira rather than sit tight with all of those resources was the first of a number of deals that robbed the farm system of depth and when the budget is tightening (which it was) I think it's important to hang onto young guys and build around them.

They should have rebuilt then.
