NL Rookie of the Year Watch

Its funny. I was shooting the UNC vs Kansas basketball game the other night and during the pregame shoot around a couple of the Kansas players were debating who was going to win ROY. Kansas has a kid from Atlanta that’s a big Braves fan….Bryson Tiller

Now I agree the pick is a stupid way to make teams play rookies. But it shouldn’t be a factor in who gets the award.

I think the logic goes that since the draft pick is being awarded as incentive to promote players early, it doesn’t make sense not to reward a team for promoting a prospect early.

Additionally, RoY campaigns for guys with short seasons means they didn’t have to go through the ups and downs of a full season. A few good months is not the same as 6 good months.

And this is exactly how the voters should see it also. Horton did a good job when he came up and I'm not taking anything away from him but Baldwin was better over a longer span while playing the hardest position.
 
Getting that draft pick is huge. Looking at the voting, it wasnt even that close. 21 first place votes for Drake. 9 for Horton.
 
Drake earned this award with that 210 wRC+ in the final 2 weeks. I am pretty sure I posted at the time people should give up hope because Horton had it locked up.

exactly why giving a competitive advantage to a team for some biased voting by idiots is a really dumb idea.. if this was closer and the Brave's 2 beat idiots were the deciding vote, then how dumb would baseball look..

Great for Drake, he deserved it and I am glad the Braves are the ones who get the advantage... but this is beyond stupid and I hope it changes in short order.
