Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

ANd the Yankees are about to take Olson off the board.

If Freeman then signs with the Dodgers the options begin to dwindle.

You may have to go Correa/Conforto and move Riley to first.

It’s weird that since the lockout not one peep about Correa or Story.

If this were actually an option, I'd prefer it

We apparently have 50m minimum to spend.

COrrea 30 / COnforto ~17.5

I have been of the position we don't need a mid to back end rotation arm. Playoffs are as close to a certainty as it gets for baseball. Having 5 starters for the season is irrelevant for postseason time. With one WS in pocket we should now always be focused on having the strongest team possible once October starts.

I'd be beyond shocked if this were even an option but I'd not be against it. I think Story would be on the board too.

Just what trade chips does AA have to offer for Olson?
Move Riley to 1b then what are options for 3rd?
If Freddie goes to LA, is Ozzie our only LH hitter? Also, LH is not Ozzies strong side.
Lots of FA fits still available EXCEPT 1b options!

You can find left handed options at the deadline to shore up that weakness before the playoffs.

Heyman: Yankees are pessimistic on Freeman, and have said no to the ask of Volpe plus more for Matt Olson. So Anthony Rizzo seems to be the most realistic at 1B for them now. And that’s not so bad.

I'm really scared about what our package for Olson would have to be if they want Volpe+. That's crazy.

Agree and that is why I think Freddie feels he has AA over the barrel but us outsiders know AA never folds under pressure. J/K. I still feel it is 50/50 that FF comes back but then I also remember last year when he was late reporting to spring training as well.

Ever the optomist I see. But without sounding like a pessimist, when I look at TODAYS roster I have doubts about even making the playoffs.

Its exapanded even more.

We still have a great top 3 of the rotation with a crazy amount of options for the back. Our pen is still very good and Ozuna is back on offense.

Freemans production WILL be replaced so I'm not sure how anyone can not be positive about the Braves playoff chances honestly.

We won the World Series without Acuna or Ozuna and we will have them both back this season plus whoever replaces FF and we just made a serious run at Cruz. AA will have us a top playoff roster before the season starts. I think Kirby Yates will be a big addition to the bullpen too.

Bingo. I'm not worried about having a competitive roster, and we know AA will go out and make necessary deadline moves. It's just a bit frustrating because fans are fans. lol

Yep lol. We get anxious and wanna see it all get done and unfortunately it don’t work that way sometimes but AA has given us 0 reason not to trust him. If we do end up going the trade route for Olson he needs time in camp to get familiar with the coaches and teammates. I wish it would get resolved asap even if that means no Freeman.

I really do hate being a Braves fan in the offseason. Lol. If you ever hear us tied to someone you can almost guarantee its not going to happen. Then being this far into the offseason and having as many holes as we do is frustrating. Lockout not withstanding. Since it was lifted, the gNats, Mets, and Phillies have all improved.

AA is just really frugal with resources. But I can't complain since it has clearly worked since he's been here.

What they "want" and what they'll get are going to wind up being different.

If they got a huge package from anyone for Olson that AA couldn't/won't match, I wouldn't put it past him to pivot to an expanded deal for Chapman and one of Montas or Manaea. If he's going to empty the system, why not fill the most holes for the longest time?

Riley could slide to 1B and you'd upgrade your 3B defense, you'd add that SP that makes Anderson your #4, and you'd have plenty of money left to add a LH bat for LF (Conforto/Rosario/Pederson) and a bench piece.

Hard to believe considering where things stood a year and a half or so ago, but Chapman's potentially going to cost less to extend than Olson and Riley could eventually be a better defender at 1B than Freeman. Manaea and Dansby would be reasonable extension candidates as well, and you'd have just about everyone controlled through the Acuna/Albies deals. You could then spend a big chunk of the Morton/Smith/Duvall money on a high-AAV/shorter-term Fried extension.

We said the exact same thing last off season lol…all three of those teams **** the bed

Each day that keeps passing I’m leaning on the side of the “he just doesn’t want to be the bad guy” posters. It’s almost as if he’s stalling so AA would go ahead and pull the trigger on Olson and make his decision that much easier.

If that’s what it takes then the Braves don’t have the bullets to get Olson. I’m guessing the As will take less.

This game of chicken between the As and Freeman makes sense, but it’s also risky. Right now they have teams bidding against each other, but once one team fills 1B that bidding war may unravel.

Freeman holding out for the absolute best offer possible should be a wake up call to all those fans droning on and on about “Freeman wants to be a Brave”. Like almost every single FA, he wants the most money he can get, so I don’t fault AA one bit for being responsible and protecting the Braves long term interests.

The good news is Freeman probably doesn’t need all of ST to get ready, so even if this drags on another week or so he will be just fine. It’s the SP the Braves aren’t signing until they know how much 1B will cost that I worry about getting ready in time.

I knew once he hit FA that it was gonna be a biggest deal possible for him. He may love Atlanta but his loyalty is to his checkbook. AA has to fill out the roster and needs to know what he can and can’t spend but the Cruz rumors tell us he has plenty of ammo left. At some point you have to move on from Freddie.
