Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

When it comes to Freeman, it does seem like he will be back, albeit at a price higher than most of us are comfortable with. Right now, AA and his agent are both calling each other's bluff to see who will blink first. Hopefully they can just meet in the middle somewhere in the more comfortable range.

I think if freeman is back at these numbers it signals that the payroll is higher than we thought. No way AA hamstrings the team with an ageing first basemen’s contract.

No way in hell AA pays Freddie 32 million per. I don’t see him going to 30 to be honest and I think that’s what Freeman wants.

I think the Braves should pay to Freeman in Bitcoins and tell him to wait until the price of those bitcoins go up!! 😂🤣😂

I haven’t seen Buxton mentioned here but he’s a year away from free agency, and he could have that full season going in to FA players seem to have

I think this reduces the chances of Freddie coming back. I really hope he comes back... but...

Surely he can see how giving him that contract would significantly shorten the teams competitive window.

If that is what it takes, I hope the Braves let him go.

I think it's years more than money thats the holdup if we're already at 5 years if that report is true.

The Braves were always going to overpay for Freddie but I'm not touching $200M with a 10-foot pole - age-32 first baseman who's already had elbow surgery and eye issues. Nah.

That said, I bet Atlanta ends up signing him for around $180M and we all get frustrated by the amount.

I think we probably end up keeping him because i have no idea where he'd go if not Atlanta but yeah it's probably for an amount alot of us wont like.

Interesting to see that the Dodgers are interested in BOTH Castillo and Gray. Apparently the Reds have to drastically cut payroll this winter.

If they settled for Castillo alone, Gray is an even better fit than Greinke IMO. Much better Pitcher today, and he's making Smyly dollars in 2022. If AA's really trying to add another flag or two and is actually considering moving on from Freddie, spending that money on Rizzo and Marte, bringing back Rosario and Soler, and rolling with a Morton/Fried/Gray/Anderson rotation would bring payroll in around $170 million this year. If Soroka somehow makes it back, Gray's 2023 money is optional so you could cut 2023 costs there if needed.

170 and with no money for the trade deadline? No thank you..

Think it's a wee too early to say AA is considering moving on from Freddie. I think he wants Freeman but not at an insane price. Both sides in a game of chicken right now.

https://www.sportstalkatl.com/brave...s-rejected-a-five-year-offer-from-the-braves/

Free agent Freddie Freeman was on the mind of
every team seeking a first baseman, with Freeman
rejecting Atlanta’s five-year, $135 million offer, and
seeking closer to a six-year, $200 million deal. Yet,
you couldn’t find a soul who believes Freeman won’t
be returning to Atlanta.

This is the type of insanity I have been talking about. A deal for 6/200 is absolutely a non-starter for a 1B at this age.

5/135 is already huge, and pushing for more is ludicrous. If this is true, this is not the way a guy tries to stick with his original team. This is the exact type of deal that forces a rebuild.

I dunno, Freeman and his agent are eventually going to have to come back to earth. With family being so important to Freddie, he doesn't strike me as someone who'd just go to whatever team offers the most and uproot his family to a random city in the process. I'm sure AA knows this. If it's not one of the teams in SoCal, I really can't see him being anywhere other than Atlanta. Then again, I've been surprised before.

Freeman is a top 5 player and Goldy at most top 25!

When Goldy first got the contract, he was certainly just as good as Freddie... his last year with Arizona he accumulated 5.1 fWAR and this year Freeman had 4.5 fWAR. Goldy was actually better... don't think you're remember his performance very well when he was actually given the contract.

The people always undervalued Braves players. When Goldy got his pay is a different time. Freeman is coming from a Mvp season and World Champion. Goldy is not Freeman.

I think you need to go revisit Goldschimdt’s career. He was every bit the player Freeman is, and probably a little better. The fact Freeman has a ring now while Goldy doesn’t is completely irrelevant to the value of either player.

Get back to me when Freeman posts a 7 win season, or posts 6 seasons of 4.9+ wins.

Freeman had every right to ask for Goldy money plus a little more. Apparently, AA offered exactly that. If Freeman wants $180M+ then he doesn’t actually care about being a Brave as much as the narrative around here has been suggesting.

Shocking…a player chasing the most money. Who would have guessed?

Freddie Freeman play about 3 years with a rebuilding team.
One of the best hitters and best first baseman right now.
MVP and World Champion.
They have the right to tell him look this are Paul Goldschmidt numbers but at the same time Freeman have the right to show his value to who ever sign him. This is not about how much we think he value because at the end of the day he’s the one make the decision.

Sure, I’m just skeptical any team will give him 60-70 million more than Paul. If they do it shouldn’t be us.

None of this changes his value…

Freeman has already signed the largest contract in Braves history when he got 8/135.

Assuming AA really offered 5/135, Freeman could have signed the 2 largest contracts in franchise history. Add a series of options that brings the guaranteed total to $140M+ and that’s as high as a team with the Braves payroll limitations should go.

If owning the 2 largest contracts in franchise history is not enough for the guy who supposedly wants to be a Brave, then he doesn’t really want to be a Brave for life. The Braves can’t hamstring their ability to build a competitive roster just to accommodate one “Brave for life”.
