Official 2022 Offseason Moves Thread

One positive here at least for playoff considerations is good to see Dodgers weakened. I know we beat them but at the end of the day its a team that won 106 games and underperformed their expected win / loss record. Pound for pound they are still the team to beat and the team I'd most prefer to see lose some key parts.

On Freeman unlike the Ozuna signing and others, we really can't afford to let it linger. Our entire path forward is totally contingent on where we land with him so strategically its to our benefit to lock this in so we can have as much clarity as possible on what we can do either way.

Truth.

Their big FA's are Kershaw, Jansen, Seager, Taylor, and Scherzer. Of that group I expect them to keep Kershaw and maybe Jansen. They clearly can go get anybody else they want but their team is going to be different.

Yeah i agree with this, i hope they lose Seager too. Dodgers are still the Braves biggest threat in the NL despite the Mets adding who they've added. Be interested where Dodgers go now, up the ante on Kershaw? go for Ray or Stroman? Right now, their rotation is essentially Buehler and Urias with Bauer no comment, Scherzer gone, May out for some time with TJ, and Kershaw a FA.

I dont think they keep Jansen, he's a luxury for them. Their bullpen is deep enough to let him walk. They need some pieces in the rotation. Scherzer was huge down the stretch for them. As i said, it's basically Buehler/Urias and ????. No way they're actually putting Heaney in the rotation.

He couldn’t pitch anymore in the NLCS bc his arm was hurting. When you get to that age with that many innings on it you wear down and I don’t care who you are. I’m glad it’ll be the Mets though that have to carry him in his last 3 down years.
 
I do agree it would be so Mets if Scherzer finally regressed given that contract. I think he'll probably fine but he has a ton of innings logged onto his arm and father time never loses.

Dodgers have Treinen, Graterol, Vesia, Bickford, Phillips, Kahnle, Gonzalez Price, Ferguson, Bruihl, and i think they'll bring back Kelly. Their bullpen is more than deep enough to let him go. They need SP, and to find a way to keep one of Taylor/Seager.

Nobody hides from Father Time. At 37 years old you start to regress.
 
I totally believe the Dodgers were in the 2/80 range for Scherzer. That’s a very Dodger move. They aren’t dumb.
So who was the third team that drove this to a 3 / 130 deal??
Is it possible the Mets were bidding against themselves. Lol.

3 / 130 is an insane amount even for a very good pitcher.

So the Mets are at 260 million in payroll with holes still to fill. Has a 300 million team ever missed the playoffs?

Yeah, it's a crazy contract. Maybe the Mets get lucky and he gives them a couple good years and the last one is a nightmare. But that has so much risk it can blow up. Dodgers might have been smart to walk away from that but i dont know where they go from here now.

I dont think they miss but if one of Scherzer/DeGrom go down or god forbid both, they're essentially in the same spot as last season pitching wise. I dont know who they were bidding against to go to 3 years/130. Dodgers at 2/80+ is a very Friedman esque move. They're at 260+ and probably arent anywhere near done.
 
Cohen is 65 years old with $14B in his pockets. He can afford Scherzer a whole lot easier than I can stomach $5 per gallon gasoline.
