Official 2023 Playoff Thread

Everyone do yourselves a favor and don’t look up what Contreras did this year for the brewers.

Murphy had more WAR in 200 less PAs.

But, yes, everyone here bitched about giving up a young asset for a position that didn’t need upgrading.

Contreras just posted a 5.4 win season for the princely sum of $739k. The Brewers took the Braves and As to the woodshed with that trade.

I won’t go back and mention my comments on this trade or the people who called me dumb since Murphy was the best piece by far. That is water under the bridge. But I can keep beating the drum about watching TDA getting plate appearances over supposedly the best piece in that trade. And then the same people are saying we are worrying for nothing because rest is good when it is hot.

fWAR per game...
Murphy .039
Contreras .038

Pretty close. If Murphy played same amount of games as Contreras (141), murphy would be at 5.5 fWAR. Both have been outstanding

Time will tell. Trades can’t really be evaluated accurately after one year.

No need to wait a year.
Murphy is the best defensive catcher in the game and I’m glad we got him but the Brewers were gifted a really good cheap player and I will never understand why the A’s didn’t just trade for him straight up and give us Murph.

Yeah, it’s less about Murphy vs Contreras and more about the Brewers getting a cheap young star for essentially nothing.
