Official 2023 Playoff Thread

Another thing MLB needs to fix with this format are start times.. It is not right to have the same teams having day games everyday. The Rays are almost a 100 win team yet MLB makes it harder for them to sell playoff tickets by making them play midday on a weekday for 3 games, while Philly gets primetime slots to pack that crap ass stadium every night.

Scheduling is a serious issue. Day starts should not happen during the week. Period.

ESPN will be pushing hard for a Philadelphia - Los Angeles NLCS due to market sizes. They already slobbered over Philly last night and brought up Mookie for no reason last night.

Another change I'd like to see is giving the 1 seed the worst remaining seed after the Wild Card round similar to the NFL. The Braves would be 1 game away from hosting Arizona on Saturday instead of seeing the Phillies. This will help offset the joke that is the #3 seed in most years (most likely the Central divisions in both leagues).

That reminds me that someone will have to go to msstate's home before the Saturday game and sedate him.

Might not even be watching Saturday according to the game time. Going to state's football game and have a family event in the afternoon. I'm gonna TRY not to keep up with braves so I won't be pissed

100%

Once the Division Series starts, you have 4 networks to choose from on the days all 4 games are played. Stagger the start times every hour on the hour from 6-9 PM.

With available technology, I've never understood stand-alone (or mostly stand-alone) games on the weekdays.

The Atlanta market is catching up to those cities. They will ever catch NY or LA, but they aren’t far behind Philly by 22/23 tv market size

# Market Homes (000)

1 New York City 7,727
2 Los Angeles 5,838
3 Chicago 3,625
4 Philadelphia 3,109
5 Dallas-Ft. Worth 3,042
6 Atlanta 2,680

That's the key point in all of the three-corner deal. I wrote last week that I thought MLB should take over the A's due to the gross mismanagement and full-blown tank-a-thon and the Contreras for Ruiz deal is one of the items at the center of my thinking. I think the A's/Braves side of the deal was fair value for both sides. The A's sent Contreras and Payamps to the Brewers for Ruiz. I've witnessed the commissioner stepping in and halting deals in the past and I can't believe that he let this one pass.

Payamps and Willy for Ruiz is an all-time fleece. Like idk how that's even possible.

Yeah idk why they wouldn’t have the top seed face the lowest remaining seed. Why shouldn’t the top seed get the biggest advantage possible after 162 games played?

NBA's kinda the same with 1-8/4-5 on same brackets and 2-7/3-6 on opposite sides but yeah it's pretty ****ing stupid.

I mean I get it. If they didn't think Contreras could play the position and that he was a DH only option there was some evidence that his numbers were likely to regress. He also had ML service time. Ruiz is also a game changer on the bases. Perhaps with the new rules the A's viewed this as a potential market inefficiency to exploit. Or at the very least something affordable that would make their team unique.

They really just backed the wrong catcher.

Something is telling me that the Fish are going to win tonight, but I might put some green on the money line for the Faillies tonight. That way if I am wrong and they do close the fish out, at least I win a little money.

Are we just being dramatic or are people actually this worried that the Braves are going to lose on Saturday? It can happen, for sure, but I cannot imagine anyone thinks the Phillies (or Marlins, technically) are truly that much better. It's a tough matchup, but the lack of confidence is so perplexing.
