Agree with all on the lack of mass transit. That would definitely help. Parking is the one criticism from the Braves' end that I have. Being able to ride MARTA to somewhere near the stadium complex would help alleviate that issue.

From what I recall reading in the past, the Cobb opposition to MARTA predates the idea of the Braves relocating to the area.

Parking isn’t any bigger issue than any other park I’ve been to that’s in a large city footprint.

I don't think there's any coincidence that the Cardinals suck the year they bring innChip Caray to do broadcasts.

A’s a step closer to Las Vegas. Nevada legislature approved the stadium bill. Just needs the Nevada governor’s signature, which seems all but certain.

Just a formality. He has already said he wanted the deal to happen. Once he signs off, MLB owners will vote on it. They are also expected to allow the move, which will then become official

Man, I really wish more states and municipalities were willing to tell team owners to go suck a lemon when they come begging for public funds.

meh.. it usually a win/win for both. You don't think Cobb county is loving the huge bump in tax revenue/traffic violations it has gotten from the Braves being there.

Yeah, billionaire team owners don’t need the public to pay for their new stadium that doesn’t actually generate nearly as much revenue as they claim.

Not initially, but over time I think they easily recoop. I could be mis-remembering.. but I thought I read something that it is 5-7 years to get back the money they invested. That is not a bad ROI. I would probably need to go find some facts on this however.

Most studies on stadium deals show otherwise. Maybe this one is different, but it's usually net/net. It needs to be pointed out it's not just for stadium projects, but most corporate projects that involve heavy investment of public funds/incentives/tax breaks.

I would probably agree, except the Braves broke the model. can you imagine what Vegas has planned for something like this. I would be willing to bet (see what I did there) that it will be way more than just a stadium.. I will be an attraction.

That’s fine, but if you don’t give it to them, there is always someone who will.

This. People need to think of it less as a team moving to a new city and more as the team selling the rights to have the team there. There are more cities that want teams than there are teams which means the right to have a team is something of value.

It's also more than just tax revenue generated at the stadium. Cities compete with one another for things like businesses, residents, and tourism. Professional sports teams are draws for those things.

Would you rather stay at a Four Seasons or at a Holliday Inn Express? Of course everyone would rather stay at a Four Seasons because there are so many more amenities. People will pay way more to stay at a place with that level of amenities. Sports teams are a type of amenity of a city.

Toronto tried something similar when they built the Skydome, but I agree this is a lot bigger and has both entertainment and non-entertainment commercial space integrated. I thought the commercial angle would be an issue with more remote work, but I guess that it hasn't. Being up here in Minnesota, I have no idea what the commercial vacancy rate is in and around Atlanta. It's becoming a problem in Minnesota both in the urban core of Minneapolis and St. Paul and in the suburbs.

I am sure Vegas is really going to be something. The thing I wonder about with Vegas is whether they are going to have enough population to have a local fan base core. No question that it adds another option for the convention/tourist crowd.

All this and yet what 50 said is true.

MLB should just make the owners pay for it.
