Official Around Baseball 2023 Thread

“Something about religion” (???) is different than a weird jesus ad behind home plate every night. If you’re not at pride night you barely know it’s happening. Religion there all the time is off putting.

Besides the discussion is specifically about unneeded things.

Some people don’t feel it’s unneeded so…

And if they have Pride night then they can have something about religion also.

You've either missed, or you're ignoring, the thread here. It's an if/then question we're discussing: and I agree with 50 and others that it wouldn't be the worst idea to eliminate a lot of these extraneous promotions. But, to do so, that means having an even hand throughout—if you want to get rid of Pride nights, you have to get rid of Troops night and everything else that isn't about celebrating the team & sport.

It all comes down to money. As long as they can sell it they will.

The Mets have a real shot at being buried by the All-Star break. This is their schedule before then:

St. Louis, @Houston, @Philly, Milwaukee, San Francisco, @Arizona, @San Diego

That's not that daunting, tbh. Houston doesnt have Yordan.

Nice to see St Louis with the worst record in the NL.

They got some interesting trade pieces if they become sellers at the deadline. Thought Goldy was a FA after the year when i see his name mentioned. He has another year left on his deal, so unless some team came with a crazy offer, i think he'll stay put.

The Cards X-W/L show they've been unlucky. The deadline isnt until Aug1, so give it another month to see where they're at.

In a sign of just how terrible the NL Central is this year, the division winner may be a team finishing under .500. The Reds are supposed to be in the middle of a rebuild but announced they may be buyers.

Even without potential homefield advantage in the LCS it makes the #2 seed the best spot in the NL this year. Getting the winner of the NL Central/#6 WC would be preferred spot

Rockies DFAed Dinelson Lament after last nights game. We lit him up, but he does seem to have the stuff....Control was off...

I wouldn't mind taking a flier on him and seeing if our team can harness his control in Gwinnett.

The cards might not sell their big core. They are having a bad year. Doubt they want to do a complete rebuild.

Every year there's a puzzling team and--at least for me--this year it's the Cardinals. The whole offense is down, some considerably, others not so much. I thought younger guys like Walker, Burleson, and Yepez would do more (and maybe they will in the second half). O'Neill has been hurt and Dylan Carlson continues to be more sizzle than steak. Pitching has been terrible. I'm an old man and I can't recall a deadline when the Cardinals have been sellers so I don't expect that this season as well. When you look at the roster, the only guy I think would be in huge demand would be Goldschmidt and I highly doubt he is going anywhere.

Both Centrals look like they are going to boil down to which t*rd floats.

Guy was awful and he’s never been good. Hard pass.

The guy’s K numbers are ridiculous. I’d take a flier on him in a heartbeat with our development staff, at least to see if we can turn him into an impact reliever. You gotta remember that he’s pitched for the Padres and Rockies, two organizations that aren’t exactly known for developing pitchers. There’s nothing to lose by trying it out.

His slider looked really good at times. If the Braves ml staff could teach him to command his Fastball, he could be useful. Some team will take a flier on him. I wouldn’t be mad if it were us.

On this date in 2021, the Braves were 32-36.

The Mets are 33-37 by the way lol

I don’t see this Braves team letting anybody pass them up this year in the East. If we can add say Giolito and a good bullpen arm I don’t think anybody can beat us.
