I thought gabe was the stat heads wet dream? Wasn’t he so by the numbers he’d swap relievers back to back to back etc?

I'm not necessarily a Kapler fan, but I find some of the criticism a little ironic. Kapler makes the in-game moves and line-up construction changes that half of this board thinks Snitker should make. Giants don't have a single offensive player with a WAR >3. Kapler may be a knucklehead for all I know, but getting that close to .500 with that set of players wouldn't make me scream for his head.

Makes you really appreciate the coaching staff that we have here. They figure out a way to get the most out of the players.

Yes, it may be unorthodox by todays standards having an older coaching staff, but it sure as hell works.

There must be more behind the scenes. He and Farhan supposedly had a great relationship that goes back to their Dodger days.

That SF roster was bad and they mostly got by from getting the most out of average players. I really admire Farhan’s ability to do that. Every offseason, their strategy seems like it’s to get all the best guys who will sign a one year deal. Unfortunately, they don’t really have a core to build around so that approach doesn’t accomplish much because the upside is limited (if the player is good, they will leave in free agency). They really need to sign or develop a superstar at some point.

Wonder if the Giants would make a run at Washington?

Not that it means much (if anything) The Athletic compiled a list of likely candidates to fill current/upcoming managerial vacancies, and Washington didn't make the list. Conjecture in San Francisco is that if Melvin is fired in San Diego, he will get the Giants' job. Reading the comments regardng Kapler's firing, it seems fans would like Zaidi gone as well.

I saw the same strategy up here in Minnesota for years during the MacPhail/Kelly GM/Manager tandem. They got two World Series titles during that run, but when the core got old or moved on, they started to concentrate on getting over-achievers who "played the right way" as opposed to bringing in higher-ceiling guys. Market size played into that to some extent (and Puckett's sad demise was a huge blow), but the strategy petered out to its expected end.

Forgot that Melvin will quite possibly be out in San Diego. That would make some sense.

Kapler might be a tireless worker and great tactician, but doesn't strike me as someone who has any clue about relating to the players and keeping harmony in the clubhouse.

It’s not surprising at all. Folks criticize “others” as a defense mechanism all the time, and it doesn’t matter what they actually did because logical consistently carries zero weight in those types of discussions.

It’s exactly why Braves fans are Ok with Acuna celebrating his 70th SB, while other fans aren’t. I can promise you if Harper had done the exact same thing there would be 3 pages of comments about him being a douche. Just recently we saw folks here claim Harper was at least partially in the wrong in his confrontation with Angel despite every single person knowing beyond all doubt that Angel is the worst official in pro sports.

Less than 1 year ago Kapler won 107 game and was manager of the year. Now he is suddenly a guy who needs to be fired? Nope…he was so no ply the scapegoat for a GM who failed to build a good roster.

Oh, look, Schilling being a scumbag again.

No surprise. Schilling is a huge dbag. One of the few players in history I would love to beat the crap out of. I’m pretty certain I could. Dude is so fat
and out of shape and he looks a lot older then he is, lol
